"We gather in hope. We gather in courage. We gather believing that through love, listening, and shared humanity, we can help bring nearer the day when all people are not simply tolerated or accepted, but truly embraced." - An excerpt from Rabbi Gisel's reflection at the Greenwich Fellowship of Clergy's 3rd Annual Interfaith Pride Service held on June 4.

Thank you to our friends at St. Paul's in Riverside for hosting this community gathering in celebration of LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

Temple Sholom volunteers prepared, cooked, and served dinner at Stamford’s Inspirica last night as part of its Meal Provision Program, bringing a hearty meal, warmth, and a sense of home to those in need. We hope to make this a year-round Social Action opportunity and a meaningful way to support our local community.

Memorial Day Prayer

Eternal God, we offer our sincere gratitude for the numerous blessings you have bestowed upon our nation.

Among the nations of the world, our country has been uniquely blessed to demonstrate how people of diverse faiths and backgrounds can live together in peace, enriching one another's lives through friendship and shared traditions.

We gather today in a solemn act of remembrance and gratitude to honor those who have served in our nation's defense, risked their lives to save others, and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Their sacrifices will be forever remembered and honored by us and by future generations.

We stand united in our remembrance and gratitude.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those currently serving in our armed forces and their families.

Across our diverse faiths, we are united in our prayers for those who serve our nation today.

We humbly request that God grant them a safe and speedy return to their loved ones.

May God also grant us the wisdom to uphold the principles that have made our nation a beacon of liberty and harmony, inspiring the world.

Amen.

Rabbi Mitch

Temple Sholom’s Sisterhood traveled yesterday to Ellenville, NY, for its annual Lag B’Omer outing - an engaging day trip celebrating the nostalgia of the Catskills resort era. The group (made up of Sisterhood members and friends) explored this golden age of culture, comedy, and cuisine with a guided tour of the recently-opened Borscht Belt Museum, followed by lunch at the historic Cohen’s Bakery, and an opportunity to learn more about the local Jewish community with a tour of Kerhonkson Synagogue.

On Friday evening, we celebrated Director of Schools David Cohen ("Mr. Dave") with a special Farewell Shabbat dinner to honor his contributions to the Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School and the Temple Sholom Learning Center over the past 10 years. We are grateful for his vision and heart, which have helped shape our schools into joyful, nurturing, and inclusive spaces for learning and Jewish life.

Barak Morag and his family's lives were changed in an instant on October 7, 2023. Hiding in the safe room of their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, they were forced to make life-or-death decisions at every moment until their eventual rescue.

On Monday evening, Barak shared his personal testimony of survival and the journey of rebuilding from the ruins. Thank you to those in attendance for their display of solidarity and to our sponsors for their support of this powerful presentation.

Last week marked the debut of Temple Sholom's new Grandparents Circle - a warm and meaningful space to connect, share, and grow together as we nurture the next generation of Jewish life.

Renowned psychologist and author Dr. Dale Atkins spoke at the group's kick-off event on Tuesday about the powerful role grandparents play in shaping values, identity, and family connection, inspired by her book, The Turquoise Butterfly.
