This week's Year of Jesus reflection with Bishop White:

After healing the people in the crowds who followed him to a deserted place, after ensuring that everyone was fed in the miracle of loaves and fishes, after sending the disciples off in their boat and dismissing the people from the shore, in yesterday’s Gospel lesson, Jesus was finally able to go up the mountain by himself to pray.

But the waves were mighty against the small boat, pushed farther out by the wind. So Jesus came down the mountain and walked toward the disciples…right across the sea.

They had seen things that defied their understanding—sick people made well, demons cast out, five loaves and two fish that fed thousands—but the disciples hadn’t seen him walk on water. They were terrified, the scripture tells us. They cried out, thinking he was a ghost.

“Take heart,” Jesus tells them. “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Where in your life have you heard those words? How has Jesus come to you—through someone’s words or actions, through unexpected beauty or encouragement—to help you take heart? What opportunity do you have, to do that for someone else?

We also gave donated school supplies. Donations are shared with all Darke county schools & financial donations are used to buy additional school supplies.
