Central Reformed Church is one of the 845 congregations that make up the Reformed Church in America (RCA), the oldest Protestant denomination in North America. Our church began in 1840 as First Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Grand Rapids. In 1918, First Reformed Church and Second Reformed Church of Grand Rapids merged to become Central Reformed Church. After our church building burned in 1953

, Central built on our current site on the corner of College and Fulton. In June of 2008, we finished our new atrium addition and code upgrades to our 1953 Colonial Revival building. We are known for our commitment to excellence in classical worship and our liberating theology that celebrates the great diversity of thought across the Reformed spectrum. The youth group had a busy day yesterday. We packed food bags at Project Hospitality, tried our best to help of family of 11 move a new commercial refrigerator into their house, and had a friendship dinner with our new friends at La Colmena. Today we are back at Project Hospitality, helping at Faith United Methodist Church, and getting a tour with Rev. Terry T***a.

Yesterday the youth group had a fun day in Manhattan. We went to Times Square, saw Hamilton on Broadway, walked the High Line, ate at Chelsea Market, saw the 9-11 Memorial, took the subway multiple times, which was a first for many of the students, and rode the Staten Island Ferry. Today we are back to work with Project Rehab, handing out food.

It was a good day in Staten Island. We served at the pantry and the kitchen at Project Rehab today. We had Denino’s Pizzeria for dinner, at it was incredible. Tonight we will meet with the Rev. Terry T***a and Rev. Karen Pershing to learn more about Project Rehab.

The Summer Choir kicks off for the season this Sunday, June 14! Come and join us at 9:00 a.m. in the sanctuary for a pre-service rehearsal, and sing with us during the 10:00 a.m. service.

As a reminder, the Summer Choir will be leading worship on the 2nd Sunday of each month this summer (June 14, July 12, and August 9).

Andrew Rienstra led our second hour. He is a graduate of Calvin University and directs Church and Community engagement for World Renew, which is an agency of the Christian Reformed Church, that provides volunteer based disaster relief and aid. Our denomination (RCA Global Missions) partners with World Renew for Domestic (US) aid. We pray for their efforts in Haiti, Honduras and the other places they serve.
