Mark Bishop announces upcoming album, Where Do Blessings Come From?

June 2, 2026 — “This album, if it has a theme, seems to be about recognizing the good in life,” says Southern Gospel singer-songwriter Mark Bishop about Where Do Blessings Come From?, his upcoming collection for Sonlite Records now available for pre-save/add ahead of its July 17 release. “It seems to be about healing of heart and mind in troubled times. It’s about recognizing that our best times are not behind us, but that our happiest moments still wait somewhere in the future.”
“God gives us hope,” he adds. “This world most often promises much more than it can deliver. But God promises our greatest joy is yet to be experienced.”

And indeed, from the moment that Where Do Blessings Come From? begins this uplifting theme is front and center, given life in vivid, distinctive musical gems that underline the strength and clarity of Bishop’s writing:

Oh yes you will... oh yes you will...
Jesus has said... there is a place...
You’ll be happier still.
You’re thinking your best days have come to an end,
You’ll never be that happy again.
Oh yes you will... oh yes you will.

Casting that same message in Biblical form, focus track “Over and Over Again” recounts the stories of David, Daniel and the Exodus between exultant choruses:

God has proven Himself… over and over and over again.
God has proven Himself… over and over and over again.
There’s not a mountain that He can’t move.
He doesn’t have anything left to prove.
God has proven Himself… over and over and over again

As the collection progresses through the half dozen singles that have kept listeners entranced since early 2025’s “Grandkids” and another handful of brand new songs, the full range of perspectives explored — from the everyday to the eternal — not only affirms the optimism that God’s Word delivers to believers, but makes a compelling case that Mark Bishop is among the most masterful songwriters in today’s Gospel music.

“There was no love before God,” says Bishop, “just an empty void. He not only created the heavens and the earth, He created an inner universe of love and peace and overwhelming joy that was as new as the mountains and the seas.

“And He created blessings; little nods and kisses from an eternal plane. Blessings are little artifacts of God’s love that have leaked down from heaven. It’s a love so grand that not even Heaven can contain it.

“The God who created you… that’s where your blessings come from!”

Wendell Lee "Wendy" Bagwell was born on this day in 1925 in Chamblee, Georgia, the son of Cajer and Arza Bagwell. After serving as a United States Marine where he was twice decorated for bravery, Bagwell returned home where at the age of 21, he adopted an abused nephew. In 1953, he formed "Wendy Bagwell And The Sunliters". Their first major hit was a sentimental song called “Pearl Buttons.” Over the next 40 years, the group released more than 60 recordings. In 1968, they famously played at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Bagwell's group is best remembered for their 1970 release titled Here Come The Rattlesnakes. The title track featured Bagwell’s hilarious comedy routine about the Sunliters singing a date for a church that handled snakes in their worship services. It was the number one “song” on the Singing News chart from November 1970 to January 1971. In 1975, Bagwell released his first all-comedy album titled Bust Out Laffin on Canaan CAS-9765.

Bagwell was later hired to be a spokesman for Stanback brand headache powders in a television ad campaign. He became nationally known for his signature catch phrase “and that’s a fact with my hand up.” Some of his other comedy routines included “Ralph Bennett’s Volkswagen,” “Me, Old Ronnie, and the Monkey,” and “Pickin’ Up Paw Paws.” While carrying on a steady singing career, Bagwell also operated a furniture business in Hiram, Georgia. He passed away on June 13, 1996.

He was the first person directly inducted by the SGMA into the SGMA Hall of Fame in 1997.
