Every builder is building two things at the same time:
The work in front of them and the person within them.
We spend a lot of time measuring what we’re building.
Is it growing?
Is it working?
Are we making progress?
Are we getting closer to completion?
But there’s another question every builder needs to ask:
Who am I becoming while I build it?
In Nehemiah’s story, the pressure of rebuilding the wall didn’t simply challenge the work. It revealed the workers. Opposition, exhaustion, conflict, money, authority, and responsibility all became opportunities for character to be formed and revealed.
And through it all, Nehemiah demonstrated what it looks like to remain faithful to God while carrying the responsibility of building something that matters.
In this week’s Builder Series, we’ll discover what character really is, how God develops it, and why our character matters just as much as what we accomplish.
Together we’ll explore:
• Character Is Formed — What happens around you can become something within you.
Pressure creates opportunities for patience, courage, faithfulness, integrity, and endurance to develop. While you’re working on the assignment, God is working on you.
• Character Is Revealed — Pressure doesn’t only form us. It exposes us.
Money, power, conflict, success, failure, and opposition reveal what is already taking shape within us. Character is conviction that has become consistent conduct.
• Character Is Required — Someone eventually has to live downstream from who you become.
Talent may determine what you can build, but character determines whether you can be trusted with what you’ve built. The greater the influence, the more consequential our character becomes.
Whether you’re building your faith, your family, your ministry, your leadership, your business, or simply trying to remain faithful to what God has placed in your hands, this message is a reminder that the greatest work God is doing may not only be around you.
It may be happening within you.
Remember:
You are His workmanship.
The Potter is still shaping.
The Refiner is still purifying.
The Father is still training.
The Spirit is still producing fruit.
So don’t become so consumed with what God is doing through you that you miss what God is doing in you.
While you’re working on the wall, God is working on the builder.
