Hello Friends,
This Sunday is the first Sunday of September and Labor Day Weekend. It is probably not a surprise that this is usually one of our lowest attendance services all year. That is because, I assume and hope that people are not just skipping for no reason but are sneaking in one last trip or bit of travel on the long weekend before the school year starts. So, all the more reason if you are not traveling to join us for worship. You see, with fewer in the pews God will be able to more easily identify who is attending so you will almost certainly get extra credit for being here Sunday. And we all know how important it is to go into the afterlife with as much extra credit we can get. I’m sure that is how it works theologically, I will check with some of the older Reformation theologians just to be sure and get back to you. Regardless, this Sunday we are talking about the Book of Life in Revelation 20.

Morning Coffee Set-Up
Friends, I have something very important to discuss, something that means the very future of EGCC is hanging by a thread. Our Morning Coffee Set-Up person has moved away and we have no one set to take over that role!!! Seriously speaking we had a discussion about whether we can continue to get by using the Keurig for Morning Coffee at EGCC as we did over the summer and we probably could for a while. Three factors in this. One: In the fall and winter we drink a lot of coffee and the Keurigs might not be able to keep up. Two: Keurig cups are quite a bit more costly than brewed coffee. Three: And this may be the most important reason, is that having decent and abundant coffee is a good way to show hospitality for those visiting EGCC. So, given that, do you think we could get a team of 4-5 Coffeemakers who would take turns coming a little early to do the task? From what I heard it is not rocket science and can be learned easily.

Stepping Stones at EGCC

Stepping Stones at EGCC is designed to help middle school students transition from Junior Church to worship as an adult. This path would offer the basic elements of faith and discipleship so these teens are able to affirm their faith as a follower of Christ as they head into high school. We will have a new session of Stepping Stones start this fall and is open to students in 6-8th grade and will be led by Ian Hastie and Emma Squires. Here is the plan:
• The Stepping Stones group will meet once per month during the worship time.
• The group will cover a two-year course of study that will prepare teens to be able to incorporate the basics of Christianity into their life.

Sunday, September 13th – 12:noon – Parent & Student Interest meeting after worship
• We will have a 25-30-minute meeting in the Youth Room to introduce the program to parents and their kids, and gauge the interest for this coming year.

Details on the Men’s Campfire:
The Men’s Ministry Campfire Night is next Friday out at my (Pastor Mitch) house. My address is [message me]. – not far from Charlton Elementary. Parking may be a bit of an issue, but not unsolvable. One, I’ll have my driveway available. Second, if it is not wet people can park in my front yard. Third, I have a long stretch between my neighbor’s house and mine so folks can park along the road. Please try not to be on the grass for my neighbors – but in my yard is fine.
If you have a favorite camp chair feel free to bring it, I have about 15+ chairs, but we might need a few more than that. I will have hot dogs, sausage, and sauerkraut. If you want to bring a bag of chips or something to share all the better.

Hello Friends,
We have a few weeks of August left, but Fall is approaching. I know this because my task today was to type out what is coming up on our schedule for the Newsletter which will come out next week. We have 2 more weeks of Summer Worship at 9:30am. This Sunday the Mission Team will share from our experience in Warsaw with the YL Ukraine camp week. But fear not, I will find a way to tie it in with Revelation, without making any reference to Gog or Magog (let the reader understand).
Thanks to our Hospitality Team who put on a nice picnic this past Tuesday. The weather was perfect and a good crowd came out to enjoy the grilled hamburgs and hot dogs. Of course, I tried about 7-8 versions of potato or pasta salad, loved them all!

We are back from Poland, I typed up a summary of the trip, see below. Our group will share more about our experience on August 23rd. I’m looking forward to being with you in worship on this Sunday. We will share together in the Lord’s Supper. And yes, we are getting closer to completing Revelation. This week, Revelation 20: The Millennial Age.

EGCC Warsaw Mission Trip 2026 – July 30 – August 10
Serving at a Young Life Camp Week for Ukrainian Teenagers
Follow Up Trip Summary

Wow! The Warsaw Trip was amazing in many ways. The travel all went smoothly, no delays or issues with flights. We got to the actual camp property, Zacisze Bis about an hour and a half from Warsaw on Saturday and met the Ukrainian work team. The main gathering place was actually a large tent with a solid floor, adjacent to the basketball/volleyball court. Sunday, we woke up early, had coffee and a team meeting and then got ready to greet the 67 campers plus the 20 or so leaders coming with them. The program theme was based around the game, Monopoly, and we had outfits that correlated and gave an enthusiastic welcome to the 2 buses of teens. Then things were off and running. Here are some thoughts from the week:
• Our main task was to put on workshops/activities during free time. From our team we taught Line-Dancing, ran Bingo with prizes, high-energy Dodgeball, bracelet-making, and a conversational English game. We did those each day and that gave us opportunity to interact with the kids and support the leaders who could use that as their break time.
• The rest of our task was just supporting the program activities as needed. At one point we were shooting the sq**rt guns during the water games. At another, the kids sought our help with creating advertisement videos for their business (part of the Monopoly theme).
• We were mainly observers during the big group gathering called Young Life Club, since it was all in Ukrainian. We enjoyed listening to the music, led by 3 of the young women. I could sometimes recognize the tune when they used American worship songs with Ukrainian lyrics.
• Danyl was the camp speaker, when he gave the message, we stepped just outside the tent so that our translator Lika could give us a running translation of the message. I loved seeing how the Ukrainian teens were attentive and taking in the story of Christ. Danyl designed his messages around the framework of the Prodigal Son, emphasizing the love and goodness of the Father and our need to come back to him to receive his forgiveness.
• One of the best parts was the early morning leader meetings. We got to listen, through Lika’s translation, the cabin leaders share how the cabin talks went with the kids after the evening messages. I was amazed at these young adults who had come with a heart for the Lord by showing and sacrificial service love to the students so that they could hear gospel. Our American team was not the center of attention, but we had the great privilege just to be a part of this labor of the gospel even in small ways.
• There were lots of conversations throughout the week, with these young leaders, with the fellow work crew team, and with the students (especially those who were more comfortable in their English). We did our best to encourage the leaders in their work and to pray that the gospel message would bear fruit. At the final leaders meeting, the leaders shared of at least 11 teens who had made commitments to follow Christ. One of the final gatherings was more of a worship time and it was very neat to see the whole group of kids drawn together as a group singing their praise to the Savior.

There were 7 of us Americans from upstate NY. After camp was over we had a few days in Warsaw. One of the most unforgettable experiences was to visit the Auschwitz/Birkenau Concentration Camp. Our final day we took time to process both the week of camp and what we saw at Auschwitz. We got back on Monday after a full and exhausting day of travel: an early morning Uber trip, then Warsaw to Frankfurt, then across the ocean to Newark Airport, and a 3-hour drive back to EGCC. I fell asleep on the ride back even when I tried to stay awake.

It was an amazing trip. We saw God at work and the gospel proclaimed in a new language. We were impressed by young leaders who love Christ. We grew in our own walk with Christ as we stepped out in faith each day.

Hello Friends,
I like how in summer we do something different things. Tonight is a fellowship night with Bingo and Strawberry Shortcake. The Youth Group is going to do Go Karts. The schedule for our lives is often a bit more relaxed. I hope that you are having a good summer with activities but are continuing to seek those opportunities to worship the Lord and draw near to Him. Summer is a great time to spend some extra time praying, reading Scripture or a Christian book in the outdoors or by a lake. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Hello Friends,
Last week I was at the Young Life camp at Saranac Lake for the camp week. Ben was going and they needed a leader to help with the week. I realized it has been 10 – plus years since I had led a cabin at Young Life camp and 25 years since I had been to YL Saranac Lake. It was a great experience seeing hundreds of teens hear and respond to the message about Christ. I loved it. There was a lot of running involved, I am not as much in love with that part.
Anyways, in case you were wondering where I was Sunday, that was where. I’m hoping it was also a good practice run for helping with the Young Life Camp in Warsaw for the Ukrainian teenagers. That comes up at the end of the month.
We have switched to our more low key summer schedule, with worship being at 9:30am. We don’t have quite as much going on, but note the Youth Group is doing some special activities. And next week there is a fellowship night with Bingo and Strawberry Shortcake. It has been a while since I have played Bingo, I hope I can remember how to play. I think I remember Bingo being about collecting armies each turn and trying to take over the world starting in Australia. But I might be confusing it for another game.
We do get back to Revelation this Sunday, looking at Revelation 17: The Great Harlot, if you want to read ahead

Hello Friends,
VBS is going on as I write this. It has been a great week. We have had 140-plus kids registered. Volunteers in yellow shirts are everywhere. There is a skit/drama involving butterflies each morning by Ian and Ronan. Heather Sweet and team are teaching the songs. Various teachers have been leading the Bible story room. Rainforest decorations cover every wall. Lots of energy and laughter and joy. Kids are being taught about how amazing is the God who created the world and gave us life. Thanks to all who have been helping. This is an important ministry of EGCC.
And it is last time directing VBS for Susan Williams (maybe, who but knows what the future holds). She is handing off to Rachel Puliafico, who was officially voted in last Sunday as the next Children’s Ministry Director. Rachel is involved in VBS this year and learning from Susan how to pull it off for next year. Yeah, and the VBS family picnic is tonight, which gives us the perfect opportunity to truly enjoy the heat wave. It’ll be interesting to see how the sweatiest t-shirt competition goes.
This Sunday we will share together in the Lord’s Supper in worship, which will start at 9:30am. The last few years we have switched times for Summer Worship, to 9:30am – as we take a break from Christian Ed. classes. To make it easy to remember, Summer Worship is in July and August. We switch back to our regular worship time on Sunday, September 6th.
Just to let you know, you will get a short break from Revelation. This Sunday, the message is fit for Independence Day Weekend: Freedom of Worship. The Sunday after that we will get to hear from Youth Director Ian. But fear not, we will finish going through Revelation this summer, by Grapthar’s Hammer it will be done!
