Summer Worship in July and August - Worship at 9:30am

Our Church Vision is Loving God, Loving People, and Helping Them Know and Follow Jesus. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God; that he came and lived on earth, showed us what God is like, died for our sins and rose from the dead. Trusting in Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection, we can be right with God...with abundant life n

ow and eternal life to come. We believe that the Bible is God’s authoritative word, inspired by His Holy Spirit and without error. Our Church Vision is Loving God, Loving People, and Helping Them Know and Follow Jesus.

Hello Friends,
Memorial Day is past which to means it is summer, and there have been a few days that have felt like summer and a few days that have not all felt like summer. Go figure. None of that changes the fact that on Sunday we will gather for worship at 10:30am, as well as Sunday School and prayer beforehand. Afterhand we are having a fairly short meeting on, “Why be baptized?” The plan is to meet in the Youth Room around 12:noon. If you are not sure where the Youth Room is at EGCC, ask a teenager, any teenager to show you. While heading there they can also answer all your questions about cell-phone apps. The Baptism Interest meeting should last about 25-30 mintes.
This past Sunday, Elias Moon shared about his outreach trip with Word of Life to NYC and the opportunities he had to share his faith. He gave us warm thanks for the support of the congregation. Sarah Dreisbach, who is chair of the Missions Board followed up sharing about our church’s strong history of supporting missionaries and sending out mission teams. She closed by inviting people to consider giving to support this year’s trip. If you have already done so, just ignore this but if you did not get a chance yet to support the Warsaw Missions Trip, you can do so in two ways:
• Cash or check turned into the church with Missions Trip noted on the envelope.
• The other is by a Venmo account for Heidi P – see below.
If folks would like to make a general electronic donation towards the missions trip they can do so using my Venmo. They can search me - “-christine” (it has my picture). Please have folks label the donation as general Poland trip donation or something to that effect.

So, this Sunday we delve into Revelation 13 and learn about the Beast. Revelation is drawing quite clearly from Daniel’s Vision of 4 beasts who emerge from the sea. I looked back and once upon a time I preached on Daniel 7. It would be great preparation for Sunday to read the entire chapter of Daniel 7. It would be even greater preparation to listen to my message on it from a few years ago. Here are the relevant links for YouTube or Spotify:

Hello Friends,
What do you normally plan to do for Memorial Day weekend? Is it a time to get away and take a trip or to really dig into the yardwork and weeding? For me in my past, I almost always went on some kind of conference or camp event for Memorial Day weekend. However, more recently it has been more about dealing with shrubs and mulching. And the idea of traveling over the holiday just sounds like a lot of work.
We are planning for baptisms on June 14th. Interested? Stick around after worship on May 31st for a 20-30 minute meeting to talk about getting baptized.
If you did not get a chance yet to support the Warsaw Missions Trip, you can do so in two ways:

So, for my sermon on Revelation 11 there was quite a bit of history shared regarding Roman emperors and the destruction of the temple. I decided to do a short 6-minute video for those who prefer History-Free Sermons, rather than free history sermons. For the video I just summarized the spiritual points in that chapter. I made the video last week but forgot to give out the link. Sometimes memory fails. So, it is a week late, but here is the link for the video on YouTube: Eight Spiritual Truths from Revelation 11 - https://youtu.be/Ix_qnUFLjlk?si=vOpwxHp_9o7Yrlf5
This Sunday we have another week in Revelation 12, The Wrath of the Dragon. For the email version of the update, the bulletin announcements are also listed below. But if you are reading on the page, so ends the post.

Hello Friends,
So last Saturday they showed the Fish Tales video from a 2002 musical here at EGCC. It was a hoot and a half. Some of the people here I know as respectable adults were back then adorable children singing about being fishermen for Jesus. It was fun to watch, and ask who each kid was in the video. One thing I learned is that the church sanctuary looked quite a bit different 20 years ago. I will appreciate all the more our side windows which were added sometime after that video. The Fish Tales Fundraiser did raise some money towards the Warsaw Mission Trip, however there is a ways to go. If you did not have the chance to come and would still like to support the trip you can do that in a couple of ways:
• Cash or check turned into the church with Missions Trip noted on the envelope.
• German Bearer Bonds with a Nakatomi Plaza Seal on them 😉
• The other is by a Venmo account for Heidi P – see below.
If folks would like to make a general electronic donation towards the missions trip they can do so using my Venmo. They can search me... (message Heidi for details) Please have folks label the donation as general Poland trip donation or something to that effect.

Ian just sent out an email to parents about a last minute change for the Dodgeball Night. So parents check your emails for details for the Youth Group schedule.

Note from Susan about VBS
We have just over six weeks until the start of Rainforest Falls VBS! That means that we need to get our volunteer lineup finalized. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity for VBS, please attend one of the two volunteer meetings: 1) THIS Sunday at noon or 2) Sunday, June 7 at noon. Both are in rooms 1/2. There is an additional meeting required for Crew Leaders on Wednesday, June 10 at 6 pm. We are in need of volunteers ahead of VBS also to help make and put up decorations. See Susan Williams, or email her at [email protected] if you have questions.

We are taking applications for the Children’s Ministry Director position which will become open in July, after VBS this summer. Do you know someone who would be a good fit for the job?
This week for the message we dig into Revelation 12 and discover that the ancient serpent has grown into a fearsome red dragon. For the email version of the update, the bulletin announcements are also listed below. But if you are reading on the page, so ends the post.

Hello Friends,
May is a great month, as we see the signs that summer is coming even when we still need a jacket most days. We have some interesting things happening at EGCC this month, I hope you can join in with us. This week we are at Revelation 11: The Two Witnesses. This is kind of a Part Two to last Sunday when we introduced to the Little Scroll that John was told to take and eat. We find out this Sunday why the Little Scroll was bitter to his stomach.

As we make plans for the coming year we want to get a better sense of where we are at as a fellowship of believers. So, can you make it for this Wednesday Night Wrap Up Discussion? Even if you are not a Wednesday night regular, I am hoping you can make this one. If you are also coming to the Fellowship dinner at 5:45pm, that is great! be sure to sign up or email the church office so that Brenda and team has it all prepared.

East Glenville Community Church is looking for our next Children's Ministry Director, at 20 hours/week. The Children’s Ministry at EGCC is thriving, and the number of kids involved in Junior Church, VBS, Kidventure and other activities has been growing. We are looking for someone who will take on the leadership of this ministry, and who has a strong desire to teach and encourage our children to grow in their knowledge of Scripture and faith in Christ. We are inviting candidates from outside EGCC to apply with the understanding that the position calls for active participation within the church on Sunday mornings as well as other activities. A job description will be provided upon request. We are accepting resumes through the end of May. To apply, please email your resume to [email protected]

Video: The Danger of Political Idolatry - https://youtu.be/UA2xfjBcmXg
Friends, I made a video addressing the recent controversy regarding the president posting a picture of him as Jesus (or was he just a doctor). Watch it if you dare! Or don’t if you don’t care. Hey that rhymed.

Hello Friends,
Last Sunday, I closed worship with having us recite the answer to Question #1 from the Heidelberg Catechism. The Heidelberg Catechism was developed in the early days of the Reformation in Germany to teach key Biblical truths to the young people as they prepared to affirm their faith as they moved toward adulthood. I became familiar with it when I was in church originally founded by German immigrant farmers in western Ohio. What struck me were the older members who could still recite the answer to that first question: What is my only hope in life and in death? This catechism gave them a foundational truth to rely upon through the ups and downs of life. I want us to claim that same truth here at EGCC. So, while we are going through Revelation this summer I want us to close our worship with the answer to question #1 and let it become rooted in our heart and mind:

A. That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. …Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Recently Susan Williams announced that she will be stepping down from (meaning resigning) from the Children’s Ministry Director position after VBS this summer. Alas. Yet, when God closes a window, he puts in a screen to keep the bugs out, or something like that. Regardless, we are now officially putting out the word for candidates interested in being our next Children’s Director. Here you go!

This Sunday many of the women-folk will be at the Women’s Retreat, so Men, let’s see if we can pack out the house and actually outnumber the # of women in worship. Just for you men, this Sunday I will reference World War II battles in the sermon as an analogy for our passage. We are covering the 1st Six Trumpets in Revelation 8-9, if you get a chance take a peak at those two chapters and see what is coming. Of course, this is not to be exclusive, women who are not on the Retreat are still welcome for Sunday, and I know that women can also appreciate a reference to World War II. Hello Friends,
I was traveling last week after Easter to see family back in Ohio/PA. We were not sure we would make it back in time for Sunday, so I had Ken Sloan fill in for me and he had a great message on Faith, from Hebrews 11. We got back on Saturday so I was able to just sit in the pew and join in worship. Here is the link if you missed it: https://www.youtube.com/live/8HjoiG0XTbQ?si=dTo9C8SeE87e2Tlf

When I hear that they are making a movie from a good book that I have read, my ears perk up. Well, I have been reading: The Return of the God Hypothesis by Stephen Meyer and I find it both interesting and encouraging in my faith in God. Well, they have made a movie inspired by the book, and it is coming to our area. It will likely only have a limited run and the nearest theater showing it is Regal Crossgates in Albany, but I’m going to bet it would be worth the drive down to see it. The Story of Everything: The Science that Reveals the Mind behind Everything tells the story of how major scientific discoveries now point to the reality of God. This is a landmark film about the evidence for intelligent design.

On April 30, The Story of Everything Opens in Theaters Across America
“This film explores the biggest questions we can ask. Where did the universe come from? How did life begin? Is there a purpose behind it all? I invite you to experience the investigation for yourself.”
—Lee Strobel, former atheist and author of The Case for a Creator, The Case for Christ, and Is God Real?

Here is a link for more info and movie trailer: https://www.discovery.org/_/story/
I find the topic of Intelligent Design fascinating and have followed it ever since I became a Christian. After watching the trailer, I recognized many of the people in it from what I have read or listened to before. I plan to go see it in the first week, April 30 – May 6 (not sure it will be in theaters more than a week).

There are relatively few announcements for this week, but take note of some new events coming up in May. For the email version of the update, the bulletin announcements are also listed below. But if you are reading on the page, so ends the post.
