Church,
We’re looking forward to being together on Sunday for worship.
Today at the Pantry and Closet we served 50 families (228 people, 104 children).
Below is our updated prayer list, as well as a prayer for the week. Bill Pickle, Bill McGroom, Roger Piercey, Jessie Colley, and Alyson Weise have been added to the prayer list or have updates on their prayer request. Your prayers are powerful, and I'm so grateful for you. We need you!
Love y’all and love the way you love,
Peggy Jean
—
O Lord, you are so good.
Though wars rage on,
you are good.
Though the Memphis temps soar,
you are good.
Though a mama and her four babies are on the street in this heat,
you are good.
Though food prices climb
and funds run low,
though diagnoses come
and grief don’t budge,
you are good.
Not because these things are good.
Not because suffering is your will.
But because again and again,
your goodness breaks through.
In churches becoming shelters.
In communities choosing peace amid violence.
In hands reaching across lines the world calls impassable.
In a young mama at The Pantry,
her eleven-day-old daughter sleeping in a carrier,
and grandmother close by.
Three generations of women.
Receiving food,
receiving community,
receiving care.
And offering it, too.
Sharing smiles,
sharing stories,
Bearing witness to the truth
that life is still unfolding,
that love is still multiplying,
that hope is still being born to us today.
Glimpses of your goodness are everywhere.
Help us notice.
Where goodness feels scarce,
make us generous.
Where hope feels thin,
make us steadfast.
Where love seems impossible,
make us curious.
And for all those we carry in our hearts this day,
especially for
Bill McGroom, Bill Pickle, Jessie Colley, Roger Piercey, Alyson Weise, Albert Goodwin, Joey Watson, Beverly Brown, Evelyn Swaffer, Treva Barnes, Kelley Sodeinde, Shea Harris, David Campbell, Kathie Cavette, Matthew Genes, Will Stevens, Arthur Bullington, Bill Luttrell, Sarah Freed, Loren Nichols, Nicholas and Yvonne Calderon, Julie Gray, Meredith Nelson, Zena and Damita Bailey, Connie Walters, Scott Hipsher, Jerry Lee Wright, Carol Iovino, Maria, Mary Kiepe, Lorri Cotton, Shirley Shato, Tom and Martha Morrison, Pam Elliot, Anna Pierro, Penny Rogers, Lorie Foster, Julianne Flake, Juan Bracho, Jose Morales, Patricia Bacon, Dean Burland, Robert Kruse, Michael Hunt, and Murray Hudson,
hold them close in your goodness,
your mercy,
and your peace.
Amen.
