Duncan Memorial Methodist Church

Duncan Memorial Methodist Church Duncan Memorial Methodist Church holds Sunday School at 9:45am just before the 11am worship service every Sunday.

The office is closed on Fridays. *Summer Worship is at 10:30am. Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church traces its origin to Bishop Francis Asbury’s visit to Georgetown in February 1785. This was just two months after the famous Christmas Conference held in Baltimore during Christmas Week 1784. Bishop Asbury, accompanied by Woolman Hickson, Jesse Lee and Henry Willis, said of their arrival, “We c

rossed Lynches Creek, Black Mingo and the Black River and arrived in Georgetown, where we were met with a kind reception." Then when Asbury’s group headed for Charleston, Woolman Hickson was left in Georgetown with William Wayne, the first Methodist convert in Georgetown. This dates our congregation as the oldest Methodist Church in South Carolina formed by Francis Asbury.

Prayers are not just to be said so it can change us but also for the ones whom we are praying for. We know we cannot rid the evil, heal the hurting or restore the peace without the power of God within us. We know that prayers are not answered because of who we are, but because of who God is. He listens. He answers. He is good. Take time today to pray for change within you and within those you know God can change too.

"I found freedom trading chains for my salvation,
Holy fire from Heaven sparked revival,
I found healing in those ancient words of wisdom
I found what I was missin', living on a prayer and a bible.
That's all I need for survival."

"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night" (Psalm 92). Scriptural knowledge isn't learned in one sitting. It is a daily process of reading, studying, questioning, and discerning so it becomes ingrained into our mind, body and soul. Our time in scripture should be what we start with in the morning and what we should end with before going to bed. The Bible is God's word to us so we can stay connected to Him throughout our lives; it should be our bookends of faith.

When you are building a good house, you need a strong foundation. When you are building a good spiritual life, a strong foundation is required, too. Reading the word of God gets you into the Bible; praying gets the Bible into you. Both build a strong foundation to keep us connected to what we need to build our lives: His story interwoven into our story. Stop today and find time to read scripture and pray - don't let cracks happen in your foundation.

What stories do you want others to tell about you? Jesus knew His time for leaving was coming so He had honest and deep conversations with His disciples. He told them things they wanted to hear but also what they needed to know so they could continue telling the story of Him around the world. For generations. Write the story you want others to know about you and your Savior - it is a story worth telling. Join us this Sunday for worship service at 10:30am.

Why do we need to tell others about Jesus? Because if we don't, who will? How will they ever know of His love, grace, and mercy if we don't speak His name? How will they get to experience His healing touch and His forgiving heart if we don't say a prayer? How will God's kingdom prosper if we don't extend our arms, lend our ears and open our hearts to share what He has done for us so He can do for others? Find a way to share the name of Jesus today. It will have a ripple throughout many lives when you do.

"End of the journey, end of the road -
My spirit is with you, Wherever you go
You have a purpose - And I have a plan
I'll make you this promise - I'll come back again - But until then

Go tell the world about me
For I was dead but now I live
Oh, I've gotta go now for a little while
Goodbye is not the end."
