During Black History Month, there is no better person to remember than Carlotta Graham.

Carlotta Graham was born in Barbados and was the first Nazarene in that country. She moved to the United States as a girl and attended Eastern Nazarene College, graduating in 1923.

She thought she would return to Barbados to minister but agreed to go to Trinidad instead. She was Trinidad's first Nazarene pastor and served there in active ministry for 40 years, beginning in 1926. General superintendent J. B. Chapman visited Trinidad in 1931 and ordained her an elder at that time.

For much of her ministry, she was pastor of the Tunapuna Church of the Nazarene. And there were times, such as the period during World War II when sea travel was perilous, that she was pastor of three congregations simultaneously.

Carlotta Graham died in late 1968, just three years after she retired. According to her obituary, "the church and yard could not contain the crowd that gathered to pay their last respects to this saint of God. Praising God, they filed past her casket singing, 'I will meet you in the morning, just inside the eastern gate.'" (World Mission magazine, Jan 1969)
