It was part of a renovation project for the church to provide more space for our growing congregation. The vestry also wanted to provide outreach to Georgetown families and thought that using our new building as a preschool would fill a growing need in the greater community. A committee was formed, plans were drawn up and construction began in 1995. The preschool opened its doors in September 199
7 with 15 three and four year old children. A scholarship fund was started and continues today. Lee Jones was the first director and lead teacher. From this beginning we have continued to grow and expand our outreach to many more families in our community. In the fall of 1998, we added a three-year-old class to our four-year-old class. Sandy Gresham took over as director and M**f Boyd was hired to teach the three year old class. In 2004, Claire Jagger was hired as administrator and Lee Jones took the position of curriculum coordinator. In 2006, we added a three day a week preschool program for two year old class and the next year we expanded it to five days a week with before and aftercare. Tracy Morris was promoted to lead two-year-old teacher from her former position as after care aide. In 2007, we expanded the four-year-old program to twenty children. Our staff positions have grown from one teacher with aides to three lead preschool teachers with four assistants, one after care teacher with an aide, two after-school teachers, an administrator and curriculum coordinator. Today we serve over fifty children in the preschool. Many of our former preschool students participate in our after care program for elementary school children which serves around forty students. We also offer a summer program that is similar to our school program. We benefit daily from the support of the congregation and staff of Prince George and are inspired to create the best academic, emotional and spiritual learning environment.
