Consider praying a novena to St. Monica for the nine days leading up to her feast day on August 27th.

St. Monica is the mother of St. Augustine and patron saint of mothers, wives, difficult marriages, conversions, and wayward children.

She prayed with persistence, faith, and hope in God for her son’s conversion for more than 15 years and in time, Augustine became one of the great saints in the Catholic Church.

Bring your intentions, and anyone you have been carrying in prayer for a long time, to St. Monica. Trust in her intercession. If you wish, you may also leave any intentions in the comments for extra prayers!

The Ascension app also has a novena to St. Monica starting today that you may wish to follow.

Monica was the mother of St. Augustine and she is known for praying for mothers, alcoholics and wayward children.

Exciting news! Holy Cross is welcoming Cardinal Robert E. McElroy at the 5:00pm Vigil Mass on Saturday, August 29th! We will have a small reception in Lewis Hall following the Mass for those who may want to greet Cardinal McElroy. Join us!

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is not obligatory this year, since it falls on Saturday. Saturday Mass to celebrate the Assumption will take place at the usual 8:30am time, followed by Confession from 9:00am to 10:00am.

Sunday Masses will be held at the regular times of 7:30am, 9:30am, and 12:00pm.

Holy Cross is looking for more volunteers to prepare and serve a hot meal for the 40 residents of New Leaf Shelter every 4th Saturday of the month!

To sign up and assist in meal preparation, delivering and serving at the shelter, shopping, or to donate dessert, sandwiches, and shelf-stable breakfast items, please click on the link below. You may also call the office at 301-942-1020 to volunteer.

A friendly reminder that this weekend, August 8 and 9, before and after all the Sunday Masses, Holy Cross is collecting children's clothing for St. Joseph's Parish in Cameroon. Father Mathias Njong, formerly in-residence at Holy Cross, has asked for our help.

Items Needed:
--New or gently used clean clothing for boys and girls (ages 0-12) suitable for all seasons
--Shoes, socks, and underwear
--Newborn and infant clothing
--Diapers

Please bring donations to Lewis Hall before or after the Sunday Masses this weekend.

Join us in Lewis Hall for Movie Night on Friday, July 31st at 6:00pm!

We will be watching The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck.

The film is based on the novel written by Holy Cross's own Deacon Ron Hansen, who also assisted with the screenplay! It was nominated for two Academy Awards for cinematography and best supporting actor for Casey Affleck.

Pizza will be provided, and an opportunity to ask Deacon Ron any questions about the book and/or film!
