“Let those prayers of the people in the pews lift you up as much as you seek to serve them.”

The Church of the Ascension in Rockville Centre welcomed Bishop-elect Adam Shoemaker for a Solemn Evensong and the blessing of his new traveling crozier. The Very Reverend Kevin L. Morris, Rector of the Church of the Ascension, preached and presided at the service, sharing how this staff—handcrafted by parishioner Arthur Snow from a retired church pew—serves as a tangible symbol of the “prayer warriors” across the Diocese of Long Island who support their new shepherd. This crozier will go with the Bishop-elect as he moves across the great geographic, liturgical, and cultural diversity of our diocese.

Prayers and blessings remain with Bishop-elect Adam as he prepares to step into his new role on September 19th! 🕊️✨

As the Rt. Rev. R. William Franklin prepares to step down as Assisting Bishop on Saturday, he shares a farewell message to the people of the Diocese of Long Island.

We are deeply grateful for Bishop Bill’s seven years of faithful ministry across our diocese—from his dedicated work with the Mercer School of Theology and ecumenical partners, to his pastoral visits and shared worship with parishes throughout Long Island.

As he begins this next chapter, Bishop Franklin will continue teaching and writing, and will serve as Bishop-in-Residence at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights (St. Ann's Church, Brooklyn).

In-person registration for the service at Tilles Center has officially reached full capacity, and registration is now closed. While the venue will be full, our celebration stretches far beyond it—we would love for you to worship and rejoice with us virtually!

Drawing from Matthew 18 and contrasting popular cultural views of love, Bishop Provenzano reminds us that true love is an action—and that action is forgiveness. As the diocese dedicates and blesses the cathedral's new barrier-free forecourt project, he outlines a vision of unobstructed entry and grace for all people, urging the community to "think and pray big" while continuing to serve as a beacon of welcome, formation, and love.

Today, the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island gathers in prayer and remembrance as we mark 25 years since September 11, 2001. We hold in our hearts the lives lost, the families who still mourn, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders who sacrificed so much.

As the Bishop Provenzano, who served as a fire chaplain at Ground Zero reminds us:
“To remember is an act of sacredness. It is about honoring the lives lost, the families broken, and the heroism of first responders. But it also calls us, as God’s people, to respond by caring for our neighbors and standing together in times of crisis.”

A quarter-century later, our calling remains: to be instruments of Christ’s peace, mercy, and unity across Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk.

The Right Reverend Lawrence C. Provenzano, eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, has guided Episcopal Health Services’ mission with faith and dedication as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the last 17 years. As he prepares to step down from his role next week, we gathered with heavy hearts today to celebrate his leadership, which fostered several significant community milestones. Recent highlights include: opening the Margaret O. Carpenter Women's Health Center in 2022, cutting the ribbon for the Clinical Learning Center in 2023, blessing the reopening of Tower 11 in 2024, welcoming the new Labor and Delivery Suite on Tower 9 in 2025, and opening the doors to the Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion in 2026.

Thank you, Bishop Provenzano, for your years of service, and for championing access to healthcare for our growing community. Your legacy will continue to guide us forward for decades to come.
