Today’s Blog… Before The Words Come Out
Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my Rock, and my Redeemer.”
Words can leave our mouth so quickly. Many times, we wish we could pull them right back in. And today, it is not only the words we speak out loud. We also need to be careful with the words we write, text, post, and share.
Sometimes we speak from love. Sometimes we speak from hurt, frustration, worry, or tiredness. That is why Psalm 19:14 is such a good verse to keep close to our heart. It is a simple prayer we can say at the beginning of the day, before a hard conversation, or even before we respond too quickly.
When we hear God’s Word over and over again, it begins to stay with us. It reminds us to slow down, think, and ask, “Will these words please the Lord?”
And then there are our thoughts. Sometimes our thoughts can run ahead of us, especially when we are worried, upset, or replaying something in our mind. What we dwell on inside often shows up in what we say outside.
Before the words come out, we can ask God to guide what is going on inside our hearts and minds. Because our words often begin there before they ever reach our lips.
Before I speak, I can pause and ask, “Lord, will this please You?”
Before I get lost in my thoughts, I can ask, “Lord, help me think on what is good, true, and pleasing to You.”
Prayer: Lord, help my thoughts and words be pleasing to You. Let my life be a gentle example of Your love to others. In Jesus’ precious and holy name, Amen.
