UPDATE: Power has been restored for much of the downtown area, including the churches on Grand Ave! Glory to God in the highest, and praise in Jesus’s name!!!
————-
Our prayers are with our first responders and linemen this morning as they begin storm cleanup.

As of 8AM, power is still out in downtown Fort Payne, but worship will still commence at 10AM. Darkness didn’t stop the resurrection!
———————
Early in the morning of the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Mary stood outside near the tomb, crying. As she cried, she bent down to look into the tomb. She saw two angels dressed in white, seated where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head and one at the foot. The angels asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

She replied, “They have taken away my Lord, and I don’t know where they’ve put him.” As soon as she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she didn’t know it was Jesus.

Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she replied, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabbouni” (which means Teacher).

Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold on to me, for I haven’t yet gone up to my Father. Go to my brothers and sisters and tell them, ‘I’m going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

Mary Magdalene left and announced to the disciples, “I’ve seen the Lord.” Then she told them what he said to her.

First Presbyterian Church-Fort Payne is grieving the loss of our member and friend Nancy Tcherneshoff, who passed Sunday afternoon. Our prayers and sympathy are shared with her children, Dennis Traylor and Karen Barnett, and their families. Nancy was very active in our congregation, serving as Treasurer of Presbyterian Women for many years, as well as singing in the choir, and much more.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, December 19th at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Presbyterian Church, 300 Grand Avenue NW, Fort Payne, AL 35967, Children’s Advocacy Center, PO Box 680173, Fort Payne, AL 35967, Ronald McDonald House of Alabama, 17004th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Just sending out this reminder about this coming Sunday, November 2, 2025:

Sunday's Thanks Sunday worship will include a time of giving special thanks for the changes and upgrades to the sanctuary, classrooms, fellowship hall, and kitchen made possible by grants received from North Alabama Presbytery. There will be a Called Meeting of the Congregation for the purpose of meeting the Book of Order requirement (G-10502) that congregations hold at least one meeting yearly. At this time a brief report from the treasurer and moderator will be received. No other business or discussion will be conducted at this time. We will also be collecting the PW Thank Offering!

Following the worship service, you are invited to gather in Haralson Fellowship Hall for refreshments and fellowship.
