Big thank you to Nolan & Linda Burns for hosting the congregation tonight after service for a hotdog roast and sweet fellowship. They have been hosting this hotdog roast and on Labor Day an old fashioned “hog in the ground” for many, many years now. We are so thankful for them and all of our church family!

Today some of the youth, grades 3rd-5th, learned about how Labor Day can apply to how we walk in our every day Christian lives. We learned that from the very beginning, God’s plan was for us to work (Genesis 2:18-20). Jesus had a job to do on this earth and is still doing it now, Luke 19:10- “For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost”. Lastly, whatever we do, we should always do it as if working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23).

As these girls in our 3rd-5th grade class all get ready to go back to school this week, our lesson today was about how the impact of our words can stay with someone forever. Our object lesson was just like squeezing toothpaste out of the tube, it’s impossible to put it all back in. Our words are the same. May we always strive to choose to:

* Encourage instead of criticize
* Include instead of exclude
* Pray instead of gossip
* Build up instead of tear down

Annual Back to School & Banana Splits was a huge success. We are blessed at HC CoC! We pray for a great school year ahead for our kids, as some of them (Shoals Christian School & Mars Hill) start this Thursday, & the county schools start next Monday!
