We are so grateful to get to do what we do! Saturday, we ran a game and helped with auction items at Bacon Bash. On Sunday, we were at Church Under the Bridge in Waco and helping serve our “small” group at a park in Waco. On Monday, Bible study and dinner at Community First(!) Village is on the schedule. We are thankful for every opportunity that we have to love and share the gospel. Thanks for sharing in the journey with us!

There are many posts and articles today from different organizations sharing the needs of the homeless and low-income. It is wonderful. Having resources to serve and stand in the gap for people is genuinely the most lovely thing. We are grateful beyond words. I humbly invite you into the work.

We often reduce people to the mechanism of machines and attempt to fix them. We are tempted to interact with problems rather than people. Humans are not machines. The way forward is not impersonal. Dr. Warren Kinghorn speaks of moving beyond the machine theory and being captivated by the vision of the human as the beloved, relational wayfarer. Look past the mechanism to the creature, not a sufferer of symptoms but a bearer of stories, not a consumer of a service, but one who reclines into a secure and trusting relationship with a healer. See the beloved. Stand in the gap.

People living with serious mental illness are at risk of chronic homelessness—more than 50% of unhoused people live with a chronic psychotic disorder, mood disorder, substance use disorder, and incarceration. We cannot even begin to wrap our minds around the atrocities that people have lived through. We can receive them with a measure of grace that we all come from the same simple beginning, dust + breath. We all come needy. We ourselves are a hospital for others. We create space and grace to echo down lonely corridors. “Come to Me all you who are weary and heavy laden and find rest for your souls.”

We are all here because we have been in desperate need of God’s healing power. We have buried siblings, parents, children because of mental illness and addiction. God met us in those places and lavished his healing love on us. We are on the streets and in the places we serve handing out the overflow of his healing. We hope that you know it too. You’re the beloved.

Our grave clothes were removed and we got used to the bright light. ✨

I’ll be out at Community First(!) Village leading art for a women’s retreat there on November 7-8. I invite you to join me in curating a bag of goodness for these women. I have a wishlist that I started if you’d like to sow some seeds of healing in the place. (I have a scissor lift on there. That’s not for the retreat, but feel free to purchase it. 🙂)

🌮 Happy National Taco Day from me and this brisket! Sharing tacos on the street is one of our favorite meals to give out! Brisket, chicken, ground beef! You name it. We are always grateful for donations of meat! I hope you are some place cozy eating tacos with people you love today! *I made 3 of these on Saturday! ♥️ Thanks for supporting the Boho Table.
