This past weekend, our 8th Graders hosted Hospitality at all Weekend Masses.

We are blessed to have you as part of our extended family:

For young Catholics, especially members of our 8th Grade Classes who are provided hospitality at all Masses this weekend: may they persevere in our mission to spread the Good News of Christ to the whole world, we pray to the Lord. (R).

All are welcome this Sunday, August 16th, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church for an evening of encountering Christ through uplifting and spiritual music and prayer.

The theme for this month’s ARISE Holy Hour is “Be Holy.” Join us as we meditate on how we can live holy lives through Mary’s example. The evening will begin with music at 6:45pm and adoration will begin at 7:00pm.

Marie Adeline (Merkel) Leistner
Born: September 14, 1935
Died: August 05, 2026

Marie Adeline (Merkel) Leistner, 90, of Evansville, passed away on August 5, 2026.

She was born in Jasper, Indiana on September 14, 1935 to Leo and Anna (Seger) Merkel. She married Gerald J, Leistner on February 2, 1957.

She worked at Dales Sales, the Evansville Regional airport in the cafeteria and was also a seamstress for many, many years for people in the area.

She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church before its closing then joined Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Evansville, Indiana.

She loved working in her flower garden, listening to country music and spending time with family and friends especially her grandson, Travis and great grandson Lucas.

Preceding her in death were here parents, one daughter in infancy, Sharon Ann, one daughter Sue Ann Spanner in June of 2026, one sister, Virginia Schroering and three brothers, Sylvester, Linus and Cletus Merkel.

She is survived by; daughter Donna (Wayne) Kleaving of Tell City, son Alan (Karin) Leistner of Evansville, son-in-law Rick Spanner of Evasville; grandsons Travis Kleaving of Tell City and Matthew (Jamie) Spanner of Evansville; and great-grandson Lucas Spanner, sister Rosalee Preusz and sister-in-law Millie Merkel.

We would like to thank the staff at The Heritage Center for their compassionate care of Marie.

Visitation will be held Wednesday August 12, 2026 from 11:00 AM (cst)– 1:00 PM (cst) at Sunset Funeral Home Cremation Center and Cemetery in Evansville.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2026 at 1:00 PM (cst) at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Your Favorite Charity.
