This Sunday July 26 Rick Colby will offer a second talk on Islam at 11:30 during coffee hour. This talk will focus on “Islamic Mysticism” (also called “Sufism”), which was an academic specialty of Rick’s while he was a professor at the U of O. Rick will offer a brief definition of “mysticism” (a term that equally applies to Christian and Jewish mysticism), and share a brief history of Sufism and how it relates to Islam. He will also share the sayings of some of the most famous early women Sufis, the most well known of whom is Raabia of Basra, who died early in the ninth century, but whose legacy remains alive and well among many Muslims today. We hope you can join us for this wonderful opportunity!
We will also be celebrating Rick’s graduation and becoming a certified nurse. Please bring a dish to share if you are able.
