Please join us at 11:00 am this Sunday for worship. Jan Robbins, who has spent years trekking the waterways of Oregon as a water tester will explore the theological/metaphorical significance of water in a desert climate. Jan is somewhat retired, but continues to set up fire camps in the summer. She is also an active volunteer, as pictured here on the annual EFC house building trip in Mexico.

A reflection from Ruba Byrd, pastor of Eugene Friends Church: Today is Earth Day, when we celebrate the beauty and diversity of creation and are reminded that it’s up to us to cherish and protect it. I’ve been thrilled by the profusion of blooming blue-purple camas flowers almost everywhere you look right now in the Willamette Valley. For millennia, the indigenous Kalapuyan tribes living in this part of Oregon depended on camas bulbs as a primary staple of their diet—and their practices of active land management sustained the camas harvest over generations. What an amazing example the camas flowers are of God’s generosity for all creatures—nourishing our bodies with food and nourishing our spirits with beauty. May we show our gratitude by caring for the Earth as it cares for us.

Yesterday, in recognition of International Women’s Day, longtime Friend Vicki Stave gave a “First Word” on Margaret Fell, a fascinating Quaker activist from the 1600s. Vicki is an intrepid traveler and has been known to dress up in Quaker garb to relate history to our congregation. A Friend amongst friends. 🌹
