PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER

O Glorious, St. Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my natural inclinations, to work with gratitude and joy, in a spirit of penance for the remission of my sins, considering it an honor to employ and develop by means of labor the gifts received from God, to work with order, peace, moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties, to work above all with purity of intention and detachment from self, having always death before my eyes and the account that I must render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, of vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all through Mary, after your example, O Patriarch, St. Joseph. Such shall be my watchword in life and in death. Amen.–Pope St. Pius X

May 1 is the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. Please pray for all you know who have recently lost their jobs, are seeking steady work, and those who are in difficult work situations. Below are prayers, including prayers on YouTube and the litany to St. Joseph.

St. Joseph is also the patron of: families, fathers, married people, social justice, realtors, against doubt, against hesitation, people in doubt, Americas, dying people, a happy death, expectant mothers, interior souls, immigrants, laborers, travelers and unborn children.

On Easter Monday, the Catholic Church celebrates what’s called “Monday of the Angel.” In many countries in Europe and South America, this day, also known as “Little Easter,” is a national holiday.

In a Vatican Radio recording in 1994, Pope John Paul II gave an explanation for Monday of the Angel:

“Why is it called that?” the pope asked, highlighting the need for an angel to call out from the depths of the grave: “He is risen.”

These words “were very difficult to proclaim, to express, for a person,” John Paul II said. “Also, the women that were at the tomb encountered it empty but couldn’t tell ‘he had risen’; they only affirmed that the tomb was empty. The angel said more: “He is not here, he has risen.”

The Gospel of St. Matthew puts it this way: “Then the angel said to the women in reply, ‘Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ Behold, I have told you” (Mt 28:5-7).

Today we enter Holy Saturday, the day of stillness and waiting, as the Church keeps vigil at the Lord’s tomb. Here are 4 things to know:

1️⃣ No Mass is celebrated during the day: the Church remains in quiet expectation, awaiting the Resurrection.
2️⃣ A day of silence and reflection: the faithful are invited to prayer, contemplating Christ’s descent to the dead.
3️⃣ The altar remains bare: the tabernacle is empty, and the Church reflects the stillness of the tomb.
4️⃣ The liturgical color is absent until nightfall: only at the Easter Vigil does light break forth, and white returns in celebration of the Resurrection.

Today, the Church waits in hope, holding its breath between the sorrow of the Cross and the joy of Easter. 🕯️
