We're excited to announce or new bi-weekly Sunday School schedule for children ages 3-10! Sunday School will be held during the church service. Children will attend service until after the children's sermon, leave for Sunday School and then return for Communion/Blessing of Children. Parents are welcome to attend church during this time. What a wonderful time of fellowship and worship at our Catoctin Shared Ministry Annual Picnic! Today’s edition was held in Emmitsburg MD with Elias Lutheran being the host church. It warms my heart when Elias and St. John’s Lutheran - Thurmont come together as one. Our Lutheran tradition of providing good food and good desserts was also upheld.

Part II of the benefits of attending a traditional mainline church like Elias:

Gathering: We gather as one in the Body of Christ in a sacred time of Confession and receiving God's grace and forgiveness.

The Proclamation of the Gospel: Through scriptural readings, including the Gospel, and through the sermon, we give a clear and expressive presentation of the "Good News" of Jesus Christ's life. death, burial and resurrection as free gift of God's love.

Creedal Confession: We confess our faith using the ancient statements like the Apostles' or Nicene Creeds. These creeds are grounded in our ancient Christian beliefs.

Means of Grace: Consistent encountering of God's presence through tangible means: the spoken word and the sacraments (water and wine).

Theology in Song: Through the singing of hymns that align perfectly with the weekly readings, our theology is internalized through melody.

In a world that seems to change very quickly, there is something safe and secure about attending a church that is steeped in their rituals and traditions. We are who we are every day - not just on Sundays. Don't take my word for it. Stop by and see for yourselves this Sunday at 10:30am.

Have you ever wondered what the benefits are of attending a traditional mainline church like Elias? Here's just a few reasons:

1. Rich Theological Heritage: We trace our heritage back to 1517 and the great reformer Martin Luther.

2. Connection to a Wider Body: Our church isn't led by a lone wolf pastor. We are connected to a local synod (Delaware/MD) and a national organization (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America).

3. Traditional Ordered Worship: Our services are structured and allow for member participation.

4. Sacramental Focus: We celebrate the two sacraments Jesus gave to the church - Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

5. We are People of the Bible: Our hymns, liturgy and sermons are biblically based, encouraging and informative.

6. Affirming and Welcoming: We accept you for who God created you to be. All are welcome at Elias.
