Stories from the Stones: Leon Metz

Few people have done more to preserve the history of El Paso than Leon Metz.

A respected historian, award-winning author, educator, and storyteller, Leon dedicated his life to researching and sharing the people and events that shaped the Borderland. His books and lectures introduced generations of El Pasoans to their city’s rich past.

Leon was also one of the founders of the Concordia Heritage Association, helping lead the effort to preserve and protect historic Concordia Cemetery so that the stories of those buried here would never be forgotten.

His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the history he preserved, and the work that continues at Concordia today.

Join the Concordia Heritage Association on Saturday, July 4th for a FREE family-friendly event featuring a reenactment of El Paso’s 1898 Independence Day celebration as residents received news of the end of the Spanish-American War.

From every branch, every era, and every walk of life, their service and sacrifice helped shape the freedoms we carry with us today. 🇺🇸

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for our Memorial Day ceremony and helped ensure these heroes are remembered, not just today, but always.
