In celebration of the 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁. 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝗶, the patron saint of animals and a beloved example of care for all of God’s creation, Queen of the Apostles and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parishes invites parishioners, friends — and their furry, feathered and four-legged companions — to our annual 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁. 𝟰! 🐕🐈🐇🐦

Following the Dupont blessing, members of the 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 will host a light outdoor social.

🎁 And there’s a little something for our four-legged guests, too! Pet treats will be given to all pets at both blessings.

For the safety of all our guests — two-legged and four-legged alike — please be sure all pets are properly restrained.

Bring your beloved pets and join us as we give thanks to God for the joy, companionship and unconditional love they bring into our lives. ❤️🐾

First responders and elected officials from both Dupont and Avoca gathered in prayer this evening in St. Mary’s Church to commemorate 25 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks on our country.

💙 Annual Blue Mass | Patriot Day 🇺🇸

On Patriot Day, September 11, Queen of the Apostles Parish will gather to honor, remember, and pray for the brave men and women who serve our communities as law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders.

All borough council members, law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders from Avoca, Dupont, Hughestown, Moosic, and surrounding municipalities are warmly invited to attend our Annual Blue Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Avoca.

A Blue Mass is a special Catholic Eucharistic liturgy that gives thanks for the service and sacrifice of our first responders while asking God to bless them with safety, strength, and protection. The Mass will include prayers for those who have fallen in the line of duty, those who are currently serving, and their families.

The evening will also include:
💙 A procession of first responders in dress uniform and our parish-sponsored Cub Pack and Scout Troop from the Avoca Fire Department building to St. Mary’s Church.
🙏 Prayers remembering the first responders who have died this past year
🕊️ A homily honoring the importance of their service
🚒 A blessing of first responder equipment
💙 Special remembrance of the first responders who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

The tradition of the Blue Mass dates back to 1934. In more recent decades, its celebration has become closely associated with the remembrance of the September 11 attacks and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. The name “Blue Mass” comes from the traditional color of many first responder uniforms.
Please join us in prayer and gratitude for those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect and serve others. 💙

Queen of the Apostles Parish at St. Mary’s Church is hosting Irish Night on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m. in Queen of the Apostles Parish Hall, 742 Spring St., Avoca — and you won’t want to miss this lively evening!

Enjoy an authentic Irish feast prepared by Chef Eugene Philbin, featuring Irish favorites like classic Irish sausage with red onion and whiskey gravy, tender beef slow-cooked in Guinness stout gravy, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, Irish soda bread, homemade desserts, and more! 🍀

🎶 The night’s entertainment will feature The Quietmen bringing you the best of Irish and Celtic music, old-time folk tunes, acoustic favorites from the ’50s and ’60s, and today’s hits.

We are starting our Polish Picnic at 1 p.m. with a little rain, but the later afternoon is forecasted to be clear and dry. Stop by for some delicious homemade food, and join us for Mass at 4 p.m. during which Polish hymns will be sung. Our amazing volunteers are waiting to serve you!
