MOTION OF SHE LEADS MICHIGAN
TO INVITE OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST BACK INTO OUR GOVERNMENT, OUR SCHOOLS, OUR HOMES, HEARTS, AND
EVERY FACET OF HIS CREATION
Now comes She Leads Michigan, through its members, supporters, and with the breath of the Holy Spirit, moves as follows:
The founders of our country built the United States of America on Judeo-Christian principles that protect the freedom of religious exercise and belief.
Our Declaration of Independence, published on July 4, 1776 proclaimed that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The Constitution of the United States, executed on April 30, 1789, sought to preserve “the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and to our Posterity.”
On December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights to the Constitution further safeguarded individual liberties, with the primary liberty enshrined in its First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
The First Amendment demands that neither the government, nor our courts, nor any aspect of our public society prohibit the free exercise of religion or detract from “a recognition of the important role that religion plays in the lives of many Americans.” The American Legion v. American Humanist Association, 588 U.S. ___ (2019).
Our judicial and governmental institutions, however, have alienated and prohibited worship, discussion, and presence of Jesus Christ in almost all facets of public life.
Starting in the early 1960’s, the Court system has incrementally banned religion and Jesus Christ.
On June 25, 1962, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the recitation of prayer in the public schools violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Engel v. Vitale, 370 U.S. 421 (1962).
The following year the United States Supreme Court banned mandatory daily Bible readings and prayer in the public school on the same grounds. Abington School District v. Schempp, 374 U.S. 203 (1963).
On November 17, 1980, the United States Supreme Court required the removal of the Ten Commandments from the walls of the public schools. Stone v. Graham, 449 U.S. 39 (1980).
Then in 1992, the United States Supreme Court banned prayer from public graduation ceremonies. Lee v. Weisman, 505 U.S. 577 (1992).
Courts around the nation have banned religious texts and items from being displayed in the workplace. See, e.g., Berry v. Department of Social Services, 447 F.3d 642, 651-51 (9th Cir. 2006).
The state and federal government have interpreted and enacted laws that are outwardly hostile to Christian religious beliefs, causing years of hardship and litigation for Christians brave enough to stand up for their faith. See Hobby Lobby v. Burwell, 573 U.S. 682 (2014); Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 584 U.S. ___ (2018).
In Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. ___ (2015), the United States Supreme Court found state law upholding traditional marriage between a man and a woman unconstitutional and stated: “But when [a] sincere, personal opposition becomes enacted law and public policy, the necessary consequence is to put the imprimatur of the State itself on an exclusion that soon demeans and stigmatizes those whose own liberty is then denied.”
Through casting the Bible, prayer, and Judeo-Christian beliefs out of our schools, governments, and public lives, our nation has demeaned and stigmatized our Lord, Jesus Christ, and those who believe in Him.
This has all taken place under the guise of a “separation between Church and State.” A phrase that has no force of law but was taken out of context from a Letter penned by President Thomas Jefferson on January 1, 1802 and misinterpreted over one hundred and fifty years after it was sent.
Jefferson’s Letter to the Danbury Baptists. Jefferson’s Letter assured the congregation that the government would not interfere with the Church nor would it offer special favors to it, but the law did not ban religious exercise from public life.
Two days after sending his letter, President Thomas Jefferson attended a religious service in the House of Representatives.
Religious exercise was robust and an integral part of both public and private life.
The original intent of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment was that the government would not establish one national, state-sponsored church, such as the Church of England.
The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment was meant to protect the exercise of religion in all aspects of one’s life.
Our country has subverted the meaning and purpose of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
Our schools, government, and society have cast religion from its walls.
The holy language of the Bible, in 2 Chronicles 7:14, states “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Therefore, it is hereby moved by She Leads Michigan that:
We are called by You, dear Lord, by name.
We submit ourselves to you in total humility.
We pray to see the face of Jesus again in our schools, in our courts, in our government, in our homes, in our workplaces, and in every aspect of Your Creation.
We turn from our wicked ways of stigmatizing You, demeaning You, neglecting to stand up for You, minimizing Your importance in our lives, denying that we are created in Your image and likeness to be a beacon of Your light, or anytime when we have failed to proudly proclaim Your name with truth, love, and confidence in Your eternal victory.
Please hear us from heaven, Dear Lord. We are calling out to you.
Please forgive us our sins and heal our land.
It is so MOVED, in Jesus’ Name on this 24th day of October 2020, year of our Lord.

ALL: Lord Jesus, we put on your armor—your salvation—your truth—your righteousness. We take the shield of faith to repel the fiery attacks of the devil. We lift up your sword—the Living Word of God; and with your high praises in our mouths, we come to do battle. For we know our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
We are cleansed and made righteous in God’s sight by Your precious blood. In Your name we carry God’s authority into the land.
