In 2019, I became deeply alarmed by much of the female leadership culture I was seeing around me in Michigan. So many women in positions of influence appeared angry, bitter, coarse, and combative — and I remember thinking, I do not want my granddaughters growing up believing this is what strong womanhood looks like.
One day, I got down on my knees beside my prayer chair and cried out, “Lord, what are we going to do about this?” Immediately, I sensed the Lord speak clearly to my heart: “It’s time for Christian women to rise up and have a voice.”
From that moment, the vision for was born.
The Lord then gave us a strategy rooted in Proverbs 31:31:
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
The “city gate” in biblical times represented places of leadership, influence, and governmental authority. We believed God was calling us not only to honor Christian women through peer recognition, but also through acknowledgment by civic and governmental leaders.
As a result, we began hosting annual events — galas, elegant teas, brunches, receptions, and celebrations — designed to honor accomplished Christian women of distinction for the impact they were making in every sphere of society.
By 2021, as my advisory team and I prayed together, we felt strongly led by the Holy Spirit that this vision no longer belonged only to Michigan. God was calling us to take it to the United States of America.
We knew we needed a legislative partner who would be willing to publicly honor Christian women at the national level. That is when we found an incredible partner in Lisa McClain.
At the time, she was serving as a first-term congresswoman from Michigan. When I first contacted her office, we learned that individuals could be honored by being entered into the Congressional Record. We were thrilled.
We asked if she would be willing each year to honor 10 to 12 Christian women from across the United States — women of extraordinary accomplishment, leadership, faith, and influence. She graciously and enthusiastically agreed.
Over the years, Congresswoman McClain has risen to one of the highest leadership positions in the United States Congress. I believe this is not only because of her exceptional leadership abilities, but also because the hand of God is upon her. Scripture teaches that when we honor and bless others, blessing follows.
Today, I want to publicly congratulate and thank Lisa McClain for her unwavering support of Christian women in America and for helping give honor where honor is due.
We are deeply grateful for her partnership, leadership, and friendship.
