"Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God." Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Salvation begins and ends with God. Without His calling (conviction of sins) there is no salvation. We don't just wake up a Christian, we give in to the call of God. Paul, while imprisoned, pleads with fellow believers to live a life that is worthy of God's saving grace. We should never take lightly our salvation since it begins with and ends with God. Live a worthy life each day.

"Brethren, pray for us." 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Apostle Paul points us towards the need of prayer by fellow believers. We will never rise above the need for others to pray for us. As I lay down last night I was more at peace concerning the possible need for treatment for my CLL and whether I needed a speicialist. I then remembered my asking for prayer during our prayer time in the service. Your prayers greatly helped me. May we always be willing to share our need for prayer and to pray for others.

Do Not Covet
Exodus 20:17

Exactly what does this verse mean? Listen to what it isn’t and what it is.

“And take care not to practice your righteousness before people to be seen by them; ⌊otherwise⌋ you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 Therefore whenever you practice charitable giving, do not sound a trumpet in front of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, in order that they may be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full! 3 But you, when you practice charitable giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 in order that your charitable giving may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Matthew 6:1-4

"Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!"
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭3‬:‭17-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Such fitting verses for our household as the month of May comes to an end. It has been a tough month. Maybe your month has been equally tough. No matter how trying our lives may be, may we still rejoice in the God of our salvation.

"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand."... Zechariah‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Are you familiar with the saying "Rome wasn't built in a day?" Even the famous city of Rome was built piece by piece, a little at a time. We are currently in a time where bigger is better and everyone wants to start at the top. We have lost sight of the importance of small steps. This is true in church life and individual lives of Believers. When we do the small things for the right reason and with God's blessings we are pleasing to Him. What small step do you need to take today?

Do not think that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets. I have not come to destroy them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one tiny letter or one stroke of a letter will pass away from the law until all takes place. 19 Therefore whoever abolishes one of the least of these commandments and teaches people to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever keeps them and teaches them, this person will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5: 17-20

"He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Daniel‬ ‭3‬:‭25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I have never been in a literal fiery furnace. But, I have been in situations that felt just as dangerous to me. The three men this verse is referring to had disobeyed an earthly king. Due to their disobedience they were placed into the furnace. Inside the furnace with them was Jesus, God's Son. If He could be in the furnace with them, then surely He can be with us in our trials. As we face our troubles, we need to look around and see Jesus standing with us.

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Where are you today? What are you doing? Likely you are at your usual daily place doing your usual daily stuff. Maybe it's boring. Maybe you prefer not to be there and doing THAT. I understand. I've had those days and thoughts. As Believers, we can have a better day and attitude if we remember that whatever it is we are doing, we should do it in the name of our Lord Jesus. While you are at it, give thanks to God.

"While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh... 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

No matter who we are, the vitality of youth will eventually be replaced with an aging body. As this happens we may find ourselves groaning and sighing. We will likely wish for our younger bodies to return. They won't. Age always wins out in the end. But, for the Christian that is not the end if the story. At death we gain that new body the Bible speaks of. It will be the best body we have ever had! Though we groan today, we will rejoice then.
