Tuesday's word of the day is, Honor…. Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer at noon on Tuesday while thinking of the word, Honor.

Honor is a word full of admiration and respect. It implies
the duty to hold the person, place, or idea at the highest
level of response. We honor our vets service to their
country, and to us. Special recognition. The scouts
pledge, “On my honor...” Think about the parts of your
life that you honor.

Todays words of the day are, On Our Way!
Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer TODAY at noon and focus on the words On Our Way!

2025 and 2026 renewal of purpose is expressed in these words. The path is open, and we are ready with the first steps taken. The theme for the year is Up Up and Away! Balloons lift up our hopes, expectations and ideas. All are welcome to join us on the path... We are On Our Way!

Tuesday's word of the day is, Rally.
Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the word.

At Salem, we refer to Rally Day as the day that we set aside to begin the program year. To rally round an idea or purpose brings to mind excitement, an opportunity to support and make a project or a length of time, successful. Join in the Rally. The possibilities for programs are endless. All ideas are welcome.

Tuesday's word of the day is, Better
Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the word, Better.

Why such a strange word for this week? How are you? Couldn’t be better. We use the word often but do we give it it’s due. We can do better…we will try to do better…we tried our best and we can be better. Allow this word to have meaning as we plan for the
school year and our Rally Day.

Tuesday's word of the day is, Neighbor
Please join us today for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the word Neighbor.

Mister Rogers asked, “Won’t you be my neighbor?” The Bible story of the ‘Good Neighbor’ gives us an idea for how to be a neighbor. Summertime allows us opportunities for interaction with our neighbors. Sharing a chat, maybe a zucchini or two, or a backyard cookout. Take a moment to smile, wave, and be a good neighbor!

Tuesday's word of the day is, Quest.
Please join us today for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the word Quest.

Does this word say to you, Find a purpose? In your
head do you hear singing? This is our quest, to follow that… It brings to mind a purposeful pursuit. Not to just start small and be satisfied but to go further to try harder, to be there at the finish. In our quests, include strength from our God. As the summer continues to be, think thoughts to find that quest, and Let’s Go after it.

Rev. Dr. Nancy Niero has just published her first book, Witness at Sand Creek: The Life and Letters of Silas Soule.

Please join us at the annual reading of SIlas Soule's letters at Riverside Cemetery, July 26 at 10 am, including reading 25 letters he wrote from 1860-1865. Silas is buried in the Grand Army of the Republic block of graves, near the light rail line on the east side of the cemetery. Bring a chair and listen to the letters of this witness at Sand Creek Massacre who disobeyed orders, and watched the Massacre where 250 Cheyenne and Arapaho elders, women, and children were murdered by Colorado soldiers under the command of Methodist minister John Chivington on November 29, 1864. This event is not appropriate for all ages as words of violence will be spoken.

A book reading and signing will follow later in the day on July 26, at Salem United Church of Christ, 5300 E. Florida Ave., Denver beginning at 3:30 with a community singalong featuring freedom songs from the civil rights movement. The book reading featuring favorite letters will begin at 4pm. Refreshments will follow.

For information on these events, contact Dr. Niero at [email protected] or call/text at 303.601.6430. We hope to see you at one or both of these events!

Tuesday's word of the day is Garden

Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the word Garden.

Mid-July in Colorado means the farmers markets are full of home-grown fruits and vegetables, flowers, and mixes. In earlier days, the food for winter was preserved in July. It could be easy to pass over the growing and just think all the food is at the grocery store. Planting, watching the sprouts appear, and anticipating harvest are a great reward for the gardener. Take time to visit a Farmer’s market this week. See, feel, smell food at its source.

Tuesday's word of the day is Heat, hot, hotter!

Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the words Heat, hot, hotter!

The freezing cold of winter is forgotten. The memories of shoveling snow, no! Snow cones, yes! The hot pavement reminds us to wear shoes. Days of activities allow us to rest in the cool evenings. Ecclesiastes tells us this is the time for everything. The seasons are as they should be. Go for a swim or have a tall, iced drink, enjoy July!

Tuesdays word of the day is LOVE.

Please join us for thoughtful mediation and prayer on Tuesday at noon and focus on the word Love.

Father, daddy, Papa, Sir, or whatever you call him, this day is set aside to say I love you. Many years ago Salem began hosting a potluck picnic to celebrate fathers. Fellowship in the backyard, burgers and dogs on the grill, and laughter are once again on the menu. Let’s show that love with word and deed. Now….Lets eat!
