Here at DCC, we lean into a blended worship style, incorporating expressions from today and from our roots and tradition! When you come to worship with us on a Sunday morning, you will most likely sing at least one hymn and at least one praise song! We love being able to incorporate this spectrum of expressions of worship and love allowing people the space to be able to connect with and worship Jesus how they feel comfortable!

Something else that you may notice if you join us on a Sunday is that our worship service structure and music selections are text-driven - they are centered around the Scripture that we are working with that day in our service. As posted about before, one of our key values is Deep Engagement in Scripture and we take this deep, allowing it to shape and affect our service in a very intentional way! We believe in the power of the Word of God and want to allow for every opportunity to be shaped by the Lord through His Word as we give it a central space in our lives and worship!

Join us on a Sunday morning! We would love for you to get to come and connect with Jesus and worship with us in a way that you feel comfortable, and that allows for genuine heart-connection with God!

We love laughing together and doing life with one another! Just come to worship with us on a Sunday morning and see how long it takes everyone to leave when it's all over! 😂 We just love to hang out and do life with Jesus with one another, and it's hard to get us to stop! That's why we love our summer BBQ's so much - it's an opportunity to spend time with one another outside of a Sunday morning and encourage each other in the Lord on a normal weekday!

So wanna know why this week is especially exciting? Because sign-ups for The Table, Clubhouse Kids, and Life Groups all open this Thursday, the 27th! These are ministries that run throughout the school year months (September-May) and are specifically crafted to facilitate and allow for more community, discipleship, deepening of relationship, and personal growth and encouragement (just like our summer bbq's)!

On Wednesday nights starting this September, we will gather at The Table as a worshiping community to eat together and grow together as disciples. After a shared meal, we offer Biblically-based, developmentally-appropriate children's programming (Clubhouse Kids!!) for preschoolers-6th grade, a vibrant student ministry (Warehouse!!) for grades 7-12, and a small group discipleship course for college students and adults.

Also starting in September, our Life Groups will also gather after worship on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month for food, fellowship, prayer and spiritual conversation. Individuals, couples, families and college students have the opportunity to all participate together in our Life Groups. We love our Life Groups because they help us to strengthen the Body and live out our values as we care for and about one another; share suffering, joy, laughter and tears; and grow together in love. They're a lot of fun!

Check out our website for more information on these ministries and be sure to especially head over to The Table and Life Groups website pages this Thursday, the 27th to sign up to be a part of what's happening within the community here at DCC this fall! We wouldn't want you to miss it!

Here at DCC, we believe in the power of prayer! We love this photo because we feel that it really captures who we are as a church -- that we are a family that seeks to bear one another's burdens and stand with the ONE, knowing and walking with them, cheering them on and providing support with prayer, encouragement, and fellowship! During our worship services on Sundays, we prioritize a time of congregational prayer because we believe the Lord hears us when we talk to Him and want to stand with one another as a family as we present God with all of our praises, blessings, pleas, hardships, challenges, fears, etc, whether spoken or unspoken. We would love for you to join us on a Sunday morning and join in prayer with us, lifting up your heart to the Lord amongst family, exactly where you're at, with prayers spoken aloud or silently in your heart. No one should have to do this alone and we would love to know how we can come alongside you, helping to bear your burdens and stand with you before our God in prayer!

At DCC, one of our core values is deep engagement in Scripture. We value conversation over rigidity, hard questions over pat answers, and wrestling with the truth of Scripture as we seek to follow Jesus together. Pastor Julie and our staff work very hard to lead and teach with Scripture at the center, while also acknowledging the challenge that it can be to discern and navigate what God is saying in His Word sometimes. Knowing this, they welcome the opportunity to have conversations and discuss Scripture, sermons, concepts, and ideas; because, hey, we are all just ordinary people, trying to understand an extraordinary God through His complex and so profound, and yet sometimes so simple Word. And it's hard sometimes! But how beautiful it is that we get to wrestle with the Truth of Scripture together and hopefully help one another know God more as we really seek to follow Him through His Word!

Right now on Sunday mornings, we are walking through the Old Testament as we explore the foundations of our faith from the very beginning! Come and join us sometime as we continue to explore God's Word and His heart in all of it together! Or head over to our website to have a listen to one of the Foundations sermons! We would love to have you with us as we seek God in His Word and purpose to know Him more!

Here at DCC, two of our top values are Authentic Participation and Individual Calling. We value involvement over perfection, sincerity over polish, and everyone's unique contribution to the Body of Christ. AND we value grassroots over top-down, invitation over obligation, and responding to God's leading in the lives of his disciples. What does all of this mean? It means we just really love watching ordinary people (i.e. all of us) serve the Lord with their gifts and callings, choosing to step in and be a part of the work that He is doing, whether that be here within this church or somewhere else! How crazy that God chooses to use ordinary people and make the little bit that we offer in faith extraordinary for His Kingdom! So from helping with tech to serving kids, from playing music to leading our youth, from serving coffee to flipping pancakes, we are thankful for each of our many volunteers who give of their time and gifts in faith to partner with the Lord in establishing and expanding His Kingdom here amongst us in Decorah!

"Our God is so loving, powerful, faithful and good that He is able to redeem our pain and suffering and ultimately, to heal and restore all of creation to wholeness and abundant life."

Last Sunday, we continued our "Foundations" sermon series on the Old Testament in the lectionary with Pastor Julie Chamberlain preaching on Genesis 45:1-15. See the link below to have a listen and join us for this past Sunday's service!

We love our college students! We love that DCC is located in a college town and many of our members and regular attenders are Luther or NICC faculty, staff, students, emeriti or alumni. We believe one of the ways we serve our community is by providing college students with a place to belong and explore what they believe. We love the energy they bring to our worship and the ways they challenge us to think more deeply about our faith.

So, here at DCC, we want our college students to be an integral part of everything we do. They have opportunities to lead worship, teach Sunday School, volunteer in our nursery and are a vital part of our Wednesday Night discipleship programming and Sunday morning Life Groups. We believe our Kingdom impact is multiplied when we invest in the lives of students, giving them opportunities to learn and develop their gifts in the four years they spend in Decorah, so that when they go out from here they are equipped and empowered for ministry.

We have some exciting new things planned for our college students this year! Stay tuned for more information! And if you're a college student and we've never had the privilege of hosting you before, please come and check us out! We would love for you to come and see if this might be a place where you could find a sense of home and family, refuge and encouragement! We look forward to meeting you!

Here at DCC, we really value our kids! We believe our children are not just the future of the church—they ARE the church! So we want to give them opportunities to learn, grow, and serve right alongside the rest of us!

During Sunday morning worship (September-May), we offer Children’s Worship for kids age 4 through 2nd grade! This ministry features storytelling, play, and worship utilizing simple wooden characters.

For children who choose to remain with the adults during worship, we provide activity bags should they desire to use them. Leader are also mindful and so welcoming of the presence of children, and encourage them to make a joyful noise, sing, dance, listen, draw, read and respond to the goodness of God and the good news of Jesus along with everyone else.

Clubhouse Kids is our other major kids' ministry! This is our Wednesday night children's ministry where we offer Biblically-based, developmentally appropriate children's programming for kids age 3 through 6th grade! We sing some songs, play some games, do some projects, tell some stories! We have a lot of fun together!

Children's Worship and Clubhouse Kids have currently been on break for the summer and we are excited to be kicking them off again for the school year here in September! Please come and join us! We would love to get to welcome you and your kids into this family and be a safe place where your children can learn, grow, and thrive!
