Luther College Ministries

Luther College Ministries You are welcome here: whoever you are, whoever you know yourself to be, whoever you are becoming.

What would it take to create a place where everyone is welcome, everyone is needed? For starters, it would take God's vision of the church--a feast where we are strengthened by encounters with God and one another and then sent out for the sake of the world. Everyone has a place at the table; everyone has something to offer. In College Ministries, our convictions run deep enough that we can invite

others to share their story of faith freely and with joy. Our conversations about life matter enough to move us into action. Join us as together we seek to explore, experience, and live out God's vision for the church! Worship is at the core of Luther's life as a community of faith and learning. Daily, there are opportunities on campus to participate in and lead worship services that will strengthen and nurture your faith, and also help you grow as you encounter a diverse and vibrant community of faith. Rooted in a Christian tradition where Word and Sacrament nourish our lives, we gather regularly to be reminded of who and whose we are. Whether in our chapel, the Center for Faith and Life--affectionately called the CFL--or out on the library lawn for an outdoor worship service, we affirm with the apostle Paul that in Christ "there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female" (Galatians 3:28). Students play an active role in leading all our worship services. Whatever your faith background, you are invited to share your gifts in worship, both as a participant and as a leader.

Luther College Ministries joins our prayers with others mourning the loss of this advocate, author, minister, and profound voice in the church and beyond. We were blessed to welcome lynny to campus in March of 2018 for class visits and for worship. You can listen to their powerful sermon from that weekend here: https://youtu.be/MTmA35vPBD4?si=3fE4KxMqr4hUjlMS

Nicole Yvonne Duncan-Smith

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved rev/awo lynny duncan (formerly known as Rev. Lenny Duncan) transitioned to become an ancestor on Saturday, September 5th.

They experienced cardiac arrest.

For anyone who knew lynny, you knew they loved God, family, and their people fiercely. lynny was a devoted advocate for African Diasporic, BIPOC, and Q***r communities. A brilliant author and academic, their life was dedicated to expanding minds, seeking the divine, fighting for justice, and pursuing love in all its forms.

They lived unapologetically, in ways that sometimes-made others uncomfortable — but that freedom was itself an honoring of the Great Divine Spirit of Joy.

While their heart may have stopped, the love they had for all people has never.

During this time, as the family — spouse Sarah, eldest daughter Jenna, younger children (names withheld), only brother Danny, and a host of cousins — navigates the days ahead, we ask that you hold them in prayer.

Lovingly Submitted by The Duncan-Parker Family

Today we held the first chapel service of the academic year. ✨ The fall semester chapel theme centers on "Lives of Faith and Labors of Love" (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3).

"How does faith intersect with the work we do in this world?

In her chapel talk, Pastor Melissa asked us to rethink how our faith connects with our daily work. As learners and teachers, she shared that we are constantly shaped by our unique interests, passions, and curiosities. As we start this semester and look to the future, her hope is that we continue to discover the ways our faith and spiritual life weave through everything else we care about, and that we find these intersections both beautiful and surprising.
