What’s in a name?

A name can carry a story. It can reflect where we’ve been, what others have called us, or even what we believe about ourselves.

In Genesis 17, God does something remarkable. Abram becomes Abraham. Sarai becomes Sarah. God doesn’t rename them because of who they have been—God renames them because of who they are becoming.

Abraham means “father of many nations.” Sarah means “princess.” Before they could see God's promise fulfilled, they had to learn to live into the identity God had given them.

The same God who renamed Abraham and Sarah is still calling people into new identities today. When God speaks our name, our past is not erased—but our future is redefined.

So this Sunday, we’re asking a simple question:

What’s in a name?

Join us as we continue our series, Hello! My Name Is, exploring the pride, purpose, and promise that come when God names us and calls us beloved.

Throughout Scripture, God is in the business of renaming people according to their purpose, not their past.

📖 “The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.” — Isaiah 62:2

This June, join us for My Name Is…, a new sermon series exploring the pride, purpose, and identity that come from being renamed by God.

Whether you’ve been called broken, forgotten, unworthy, or overlooked, God speaks a better name over your life.

Come discover who He says you are.

On Sunday, May 31, we’re doing something different. We’re taking worship outside—beyond the walls and into the heart of our community. “Do Something Sunday: Church in the Wild” is more than a change of scenery; it’s a call to live our faith out loud, in real time, and in real relationships.

We’ll gather at 10:30 a.m. at the park for a time of prayer, worship, and connection in the open air. Surrounded by creation and community, we’ll remember that we are a small part of God’s gift of life.

Lunch will follow as we build deeper connections and extend hospitality to one another and our neighbors. Because part of “doing something” is creating space for belonging—making sure everyone knows they have a seat at the table.

This isn’t about watching. It’s about participating. Not just talking about faith—but walking it out.

At St. Paul, we say we Belong. Believe. Bless. “Do Something Sunday” is where those words take shape in the wild.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Invite someone to come with you. Come ready to worship, connect, and do something!

In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit didn’t erase differences—it spoke through them.

People from every nation heard the good news in their own language:
“How is it that we hear… in our own native language?” (Acts 2:8)
“…we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power in our own tongues.” (Acts 2:11)
The first movement of the Church was multilingual.

From the very beginning, God’s Spirit moved across cultures, voices, and experiences so that everyone could hear they belonged. The gospel was never meant for just one kind of person, one language, or one community—it was meant for all people.

To follow Jesus is to join a Spirit-led movement that listens, welcomes, and speaks love in ways people can truly hear.
So if God’s family is bigger than our own language and experience… how do we act like it?

Join us this week for Act Like It: From Early Church to You & Me as we explore the Spirit’s multilingual movement in Acts 2:1-21.
