NEIGHBORHOOD PRAYER | ERECTING THE ALTAR OF THE LORD IN OUR COMMUNITIES
Throughout the month of October, Sent Miami is engaged in Neighborhood Prayer, an intentional campaign to carry prayer, evangelism, and the ministry of Jesus Christ directly into our communities. Through prayer walks and the establishment of prayer stations throughout North and South Miami, we are building altars of prayer, inviting the presence of the Lord into our neighborhoods, and believing God for His power to be demonstrated among the people.
I believe we often underestimate what is being released into the environments of our communities through the words people speak, the activities they engage in, and the influences they entertain. Scripture reminds us that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Words can reinforce fear, violence, confusion, and destructive patterns. As believers, we must be equally intentional about what we release through prayer and the proclamation of God’s Word, confronting the works of darkness and inviting the influence of God’s Kingdom into these environments.
While our teams have been ministering simultaneously on the north and south ends of Miami each Thursday, last night we joined together for one assignment in the heart of Miami, and it was beautiful to witness what God was doing!
Although we had lighting at our prayer station, as the evening grew darker, visibility became increasingly difficult, especially for those passing by who needed to see our signs and know that prayer was available. One of the neighbors noticed and came outside with additional lighting to help illuminate the corner so that we could see and, just as importantly, so that the community could see us. It was such a beautiful example of what becomes possible when people collaborate and take an interest in what is happening in their own neighborhoods.
People pulled their vehicles over, approached our prayer tent, and received prayer. What you see in this footage is me praying, but what you may not see are the believers walking along the streets holding signs asking, “Do You Need Prayer?” We are intentionally making ourselves available to people right where they live.
We are not entering communities to condemn them. We are coming because we love people, understand the necessity of prayer, and believe the Church must be present and engaged in the places where people live.
