The temple is a place of refuge from the world. 🤍
Within its ordinances, there is power for healing, learning, strength, and comfort for any trial we must endure. It truly is possible to have joy, even through times of sorrow. - Jenny

On Friday, May 1st, the doors of the Cookeville stake center were opened to fellow faith leaders across the stake boundaries. The Stake Communication Council hosted an Interfaith Dinner, with the purpose of building relationships and learning more about Emergency Response.

At this event, a panel of experts from the community answered questions and gave thoughtful advice to faith leaders about how they can best help their congregations during emergency situations.

At the end of the event, Amr Hilal of the Islamic Center of Cookeville, shared a verse from the Quran that spoke of attending to the needs of each individual. Then he said a prayer to bless the efforts of the leaders in attendance. Rachel Marie Kimball, communications director and organizer of the event, asked for a raise of hands to see who would like to attend a similar event in the future, to continue the discussion. Nearly every hand in the room was raised.

This week, youth, adult leaders, and relief society sisters from our stake gathered to compile blessing bags to help individuals in our community in need. This was all possible because of generous donations made from the Livingston, Sparta, and Cookeville units.

The original goal was to make 250 bags, in conjunction with America 250. In one night, they were able to put together 375 bags! Bags have been donated to the United Methodist Church, various nonprofits in Sparta, and United Church of Christ in Cookeville, who will help distribute the bags to those in need.

Thank you to all who contributed their efforts to make this a success!

The temple is a place of light. 🤍
When I think of the temple, one of the first concepts that comes to mind is "light." For me, the concept of light encompasses several things including knowledge, clarity, hope, peace, comfort, joy, purity, and all things of a heavenly nature. Because the temple is the House of the Lord, it is filled with His Spirit and His Light. The fullness of this light is accessible through making sacred covenants with God in His dedicated temples and then living according to those covenants. There have been moments and seasons of my life that have felt as though I was wading through darkness, and being in the temple and being filled with the light found there has proven to be one of the greatest anchors for the soul. It is the light of the Lord. Whether during dark periods of mortality or times of sunshine and clear skies, the light found in the temple and through covenant living draws us closer to our Savior Jesus Christ and to our Father in Heaven.
