🍎🍯 Rosh Hashanah Is Coming!

As the Jewish world prepares to celebrate Rosh Hashanah at the end of this week, it is worth remembering the biblical background of this special day.

In Scripture, God commanded Israel to observe the first day of the seventh month as a day of rest and sacred assembly, marked by the sounding of trumpets:

📖 “In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.”
—Leviticus 23:24

Numbers 29:1 likewise describes it as “a day for you to blow the trumpets.”

For this reason, the day is commonly referred to as the Feast of Trumpets. The Bible does not identify it as the Jewish New Year. That association developed later, and the day eventually became known as Rosh Hashanah, meaning “head of the year.”

Today, Jewish communities around the world observe Rosh Hashanah with the sounding of the shofar, special prayers, festive meals, and traditional foods such as apples dipped in honey, expressing the hope for a sweet new year.
