Today is Memorial Day — a day set aside to honor and remember those who served our nation and are no longer with us.

But did you know this day was originally called “Decoration Day”?

Many people are unaware that the earliest known Memorial Day observance was organized by newly freed African Americans in Charleston, South Carolina on May 1, 1865.

Historical records show that nearly 10,000 people…..mostly freed slaves and Black Union soldiers…..gathered to honor fallen Uniosoldiers who fought to abolish slavery. They decorated the graves with flowers, sang hymns, prayed, and marched in remembrance.

Over time, following Reconstruction, this powerful piece of history was largely suppressed as the narrative of the holiday shifted toward North-South reconciliation, often minimizing the true emancipation meaning behind the Civil War.

For many years, this story was nearly forgotten until historians rediscovered archival records documenting the 1865 Charleston ceremony.

Today, as we remember those who sacrificed, let us also remember the full history behind this day and the people who helped shape it.

Never forget. Honor matters. History matters too.

Tonight was truly a move of Yah! I felt the power of Yah so strong this evening as the Spirit of the Lord flowed prophetically. What blessed me the most is that I did not personally know the individuals or anything concerning their situations, yet Yah spoke directly into their lives with accuracy and power.

When Yah has a word for your situation, He knows exactly how to reach you. Never underestimate the power of being in the right place at the right time. Yah is still speaking, still revealing, still healing, and still confirming His people. It pays to stay in His will so Yah can use you anywhere at anytime.

“The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him…” Psalm 25:14

Today we pause from the noise, the labor, and the cares of the week to honor Yahweh’s holy Sabbath. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. May your home be filled with peace, your heart filled with joy, and your spirit refreshed in His presence.
