There is absolutely no good reason to allow or defend a prayer to Satan at a City Council meeting. It should cause an uproar. Satan is evil and represents everything opposed to God and all that is good and decent. He is a murderer and the father of lies. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

What kind of people have we become when we feel compelled to defend something like this? Do we really want our kids, or any people, following Satan? Is this really the example we want to set for our children?

The city leaders should acknowledge that this was wrong, apologize to the community, and take every lawful step to ensure it never happens again.

There is no moral equivalence between praying to the living God and praying to Satan. This should never have happened, and as a society, we should have the moral courage to acknowledge that and refuse to accept it. We have a responsibility to stand against evil, not make excuses for it. Isn’t that one of the most basic duties of leadership?

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.” — Isaiah 5:20

OTTUMWA — An invocation at the beginning of Tuesday's Ottumwa City Council meeting overshadowed everything else that took place over the course of 80 minutes.

Don’t ask, “How can I change my spouse?” Ask, “How can I serve my spouse?” ❤️

A healthy marriage isn’t built by focusing on everything we wish our spouse would do differently. Jesus calls us to a different way—to love, serve, and put the needs of others before our own.

Instead of asking what your spouse needs to change today, ask the Lord, “How can I serve my spouse today?”

God’s mercy isn’t meant to stop with us. As we stay close to Jesus, His mercy reshapes our hearts and changes the way we see and treat others.

“The abundant mercy we have received from God should become the mercy others experience through us.”

Watch this week’s message, When Mercy Changes Us, from Jonah 3–4.

And we’d love to have you join us next Sunday as we gather to worship, grow in God’s Word, and encourage one another.

Come as you are—and bring someone with you! We hope to see you soon!

It’s possible to hear God’s Word, agree with God’s Word, and still resist what God’s Word is calling us to do.

Jonah knew what God had said. The people of Nineveh heard what God had said. The difference came when hearing became surrender.

That’s where real change begins.

Not with good intentions.
Not with knowing the right answers.
Not with simply hearing another sermon.

But when we surrender to God’s Word and, by His grace, begin walking it out in daily obedience.

“Real change begins when we stop just hearing God’s Word and start surrendering to it in daily obedience.”

Where might God be calling you to move from hearing to obeying?

No matter how far you feel you’ve run, you are never beyond the reach of God's mercy.

In this week’s message, Pastor Steve unpacks Jonah 1–2, reminding us that God's mercy meets us right in the middle of our storms and offers a path to peace and restoration.

We’d love to have you join us this Sunday at Calvary Chapel Living Hope!

Your spouse is not the enemy. ❤️

Marriage gets healthier when we remember we’re on the same team. The real goal isn’t to win against each other—it’s to fight for each other.

Humbly Serving in the Power of the Holy Spirit October 23-24 | Red Wing, Minnesota Are you seeking to better serve those God has placed in your life? The world is asking men to pursue comfort, status, and self. Jesus calls us to something greater. - He calls us to humility. - He calls us to serve. -...

God is neither Republican nor Democrat. No political party gets to claim Him.

But that doesn’t mean God is neutral on the moral issues confronting our culture. Scripture reveals what He values, and if we belong to Him, what He values should shape how we think, live—and vote.

So the Christian’s first question should not be, “What does my party believe?” but, “What has God said?”

Here are some issues dear to God's heart:

He is pro-life: He is the Author and defender of life - Ps 139:13-14 / Jeremiah 1:5

He is pro law and order: Romans 13:1-5 / 1 Peter 2:13-14

He recognizes only two genders: Genesis 1:27 / Matthew 19:4

He recognizes only one type of marriage: Genesis 2:24 / Matthew 19:4-6

He is for Israel and remains faithful to His covenant promises: Genesis 12:3 / Genesis 17:7-8 / Romans 11:28-29

Christians can disagree about many questions but when a party position directly contradicts something God has clearly revealed we should not pretend our faith has nothing to say about our vote.

The standard is not Republican or Democrat.

The standard is the Word of God.

So perhaps the most important question for a Christian is when it comes to our responsibility to vote is this:

When my political party and the Word of God disagree, which one will I choose?
