Holy Week starts with palms — but Palm Sunday’s donkey is just as important to the story

Donkeys and palm leaves are both associated with Christianity’s Palm Sunday – but their symbolism couldn’t be more different.

Ash Wednesday worship service will be Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30pm. This kid-friendly service will include the imposition of ashes and the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. It will serve as the gathering for both Covenant kids and youth. We recommend parents stay with their kids and youth for this service. A staffed nursery will be available for kids birth to five.

President Richard Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1970 - the same year as the first Earth Day - when we were increasingly realizing our human impact on the planetary ecosystems that sustain us.

55 years later, the newly appointed head of the EPA is calling for a rewrite of the agency’s finding that determined planet-warming greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

The families of the 3,700 people who were killed by climate-fueled extreme weather events in 2024 may beg to differ. (https://www.commondreams.org/news/extreme-weather-2024)

The EPA head, Mr. Zeldin, reported that he intends to fire 65 percent of EPA employees, cuts that would hobble the agency.

Things you can do as Christians to defend God's creation?

1) Sign a petition to defend EPA staff and funding here: https://act.cleanwater.org/page/165917/petition/1?locale=en-US

2) Join the advocacy committee of Presbyterians for Earth Care by emailing Mindy at [email protected]

3) Give a donation to the Presbyterian Tree Fund here: https://pcusa.org/donate/e865715-restoring-creation-ecology-justice

4) Find out who is doing local and/or state-based environmental justice work and support their efforts.

The world needs our care and action now more than ever!
