Micah 6:8
The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Reflection The Lord sums up what he considers a good life: to do what is right and just, to be merciful and compassionate, and to not think of yourself more highly than you ought to, but walk with God with humility. God values obedience to His commands. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. However, He also delights in mercy, and wants us to be merciful, compassionate and forgiving. As you grow more and more in obedience, righteousness and mercy, beware of pride sneaking in. Pride is self-focused and makes you think you are better than others. The humble person recognizes his need for God and considers the needs of others more than his own.
Tip Don’t confuse humility with weakness. Jesus humbled Himself to death on a cross, but He did that from a position of strength and resolve to do His Father’s will. Satan did the exact opposite: filled with pride, he lifted himself up as supreme. In the end, Jesus is lifted up and is sitting at the right hand of the Father in heaven. Satan is kicked out of heaven.
Action Humble yourself by making a quick apology when you have done something you know is not right.
Joke Teacher: “Describe humility.” Student: “Humility is not thinking too highly of yourself. It is actually one of my best qualities. I’m probably the most humble person I know. Even though I’m probably the smartest student in school, I don’t brag about that to others, just letting you know.”
