Death is always near. It pops up in our feeds, in our group chats, and in early morning phone calls. Yesterday, while scrolling, I saw that Peabo Bryson died. I immediately played his music. "If Every You're In My Arms Again." I even posted the video.

I think about death and grief often. Every single day, in fact. I'm a Theo-Thanatologist.

Anyway, there are things that I appreciate about social media. There are also things that anger me about social media. Sometimes people die, and we post before we think. We mean well and miss terribly.

Here are a few things to consider. This is not everything, but its a few things to consider.

Miss our first keynote announcement? We're excited to welcome Rev. Dr. Danielle “Danie” J. Buhuro, Executive Director of Sankofa CPE Center and Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Gammon Theological Seminary, as our opening keynote for our conference. A leading voice in social justice-oriented clinical care, she is the author of Spiritual Care In An Age of and a former board member for ACPE. Dr. Buhuro earned her Ph.D. in Theology, Ethics, and Human Sciences from Chicago Theological Seminary, building on a foundation of both D.Min and M.Div degrees. Her work focuses on empowering clergy through African-centered psychology and a pedagogy of pastoral competence.

Join us for the 2026 Womanist Preaching & Leadership Institute at The Gathering, A Womanist Church, July 10–11, 2026, as we gather around the timely and transformative theme:

“Have You Got Good Religion? Black Liberative Virtues”

This year’s Institute Scholar is Dr. AnneMarie Mingo, whose work continues to challenge, inspire, and call us toward deeper communal care, justice, and liberative faith practices.

We are also honored to welcome presenters Dr. Rochelle Johnson, Dr. Nicole McDonald, and Dr. Jamie Eaddy, who will help guide rich conversations on womanist preaching, leadership, Black religious life, and embodied liberation.
