Tamara Lynn Fox, Author Encouragement and Inspiration for Women As I prayed, God started to talk to me. But on this fall morning, I listened and He talked.

One September morning, hoping to find a way to pass the time while I was trying to convince myself to like my treadmill, I started praying. Believe me, I am great at talking to Him but struggle with the listening part and therefore, rarely hear Him. He gave me the name "Fascinated Hearts" and told me to begin blogging. So, I have been blogging and have had very positive responses to I decided to b

ring Fascinated Hearts to Facebook to see where He takes us next. The one thing I am sure of is that I am completely unsure where this is going and I am okay with that! I am continuing to try to listen to what He would have me share with you.

There’s a side of being a first responder family that not everyone sees.

The waiting.
The worry.
The missed moments.
The nights when you feel a little lonely, even when you know exactly why they’re not home.

Sometimes it feels like they have this whole world that somehow includes you… but doesn’t always have room for you.
And honestly, it hasn’t always been easy.

But I’ve also learned that loving a firefighter means learning a different kind of strength.

It means learning to support each other, challenge each other, laugh through the tears, and hold onto faith when the days feel heavy.

Because I believe God knew exactly what He was doing when He created my husband to serve.
And somehow, He knew I would be called to walk beside him, too.
Being a firewife isn't just about loving the firefighter.

It’s about learning to love the life that comes with the uniform—and trusting God through all of it. 🙏

To every first responder spouse quietly carrying the weight behind the scenes: I see you. You’re not alone.

If you're a first responder spouse, what’s one part of this life you wish more people understood? Share it below. You never know who might read your words and realize they’re not alone. ❤️‍🔥

I thought I would be editing my second novel by now.

Instead, I’m still writing.

There have been other projects, other responsibilities, and plenty of moments when I’ve wondered if I should be further along.

But the more I write, the more I realize that Hatteras House was never meant to be just a story about what happens to its characters.

For me, writing has always been about what happens within us.

The growth that comes through difficult seasons.
The relationships that change us.
The things we carry that no one else sees.
The moments when life doesn't unfold the way we expected.

And sometimes, the line between fiction and reality becomes a little blurry.
Because the more I write, the more I recognize pieces of real life in the stories—and pieces of the stories in real life.

That is what I hope Hatteras House and the stories that follow will ultimately point back to:
God is present in all of it.
In the relationships we didn't expect.
In the hardships we wouldn't have chosen.
In the waiting.
In the changes.
In the chapters that don't make sense while we're living them.

He is working in ways we may not recognize until much later.
And perhaps that's what I'm learning in this season of writing, too.

Maybe being behind isn't necessarily being off course.
Maybe this story needs more time.
Maybe I do, too.

Because we are often so focused on getting to the next chapter that we miss what God is doing in the one we're currently living.
His story is always better than anything we could have imagined.

So I'm still writing.
Still learning.
Still trusting.
And still believing that the story will come together in the right time.

Have you ever looked back on a season of your life and realized that God was doing something you couldn't see at the time? 🤍

First responder life can ask a lot of you.
The long shifts. The unpredictable schedules. The exhaustion. The kids coming home from school. College-aged kids leaving the nest. The holidays. The transitions. The everyday responsibilities that somehow keep piling up.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, it can become easy to put your marriage on hold.
But your marriage needs you in the busy seasons, too.

Sometimes maintaining your marriage doesn’t look like an elaborate date night or a weekend getaway. Sometimes it’s putting the phones away and having a real conversation. It’s making time for coffee together. It’s checking in with each other after a long day. It’s remembering that you’re partners—not just two people trying to keep up with everything life is throwing at you.

You don’t have to wait for life to slow down to reconnect.
Make space for each other in the middle of the chaos.
Because the goal isn’t just to keep the fire burning on the fireground.
It’s to keep the spark burning at home, too. 🤍

For first responder couples: what is one simple thing that helps you reconnect when life gets especially busy?

There are days when “staying positive” feels impossible.

Days when you’re exhausted.
Days when you’re carrying more than people realize.
Days when you don’t have the energy to pretend everything is okay.

And maybe you don’t need to pretend.

You don’t have to have the perfect words.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You don’t even have to feel strong.
You can simply bring God what you have today.

A tired heart.
A confused mind.
A whispered prayer.
He can meet you there.

So give yourself permission to slow down today. Grace doesn’t mean giving up. Sometimes, grace is simply allowing yourself to breathe.

Save this for a day when you need the reminder that you don’t have to carry everything perfectly. 🫂

The goodness of God is shown throughout our creation, down to the very details of how we are formed. And of course this beach girl needs salt water and sand to thrive and survive too! 💙🌊🩵

There are seasons when you wish you could see what’s ahead.

You want the answers.
You want to know when things will change.
You want to understand why you’re walking through this season in the first place.

But maybe you don’t need to have every answer right now.

You can have questions and still have faith.

You can feel uncertain and still trust God.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that even when we can’t see the full picture, God can.
So if you’re in a season where you don’t know what’s next, give yourself permission to take it one day at a time.

You don’t have to figure everything out today.
Keep trusting. Keep praying. Keep moving forward.

God is with you in this season, too. 🤍

What’s one thing you need to remind yourself of when life feels uncertain?

What’s one thing you need to remind yourself of when life feels uncertain? 🤍

What happens when the person everyone depends on is the one quietly falling apart?

We often celebrate first responders for their strength—the courage to run toward danger, the ability to keep going, and the willingness to carry what others cannot.

But there is another side of that strength.
The things they don’t always talk about.
The things their families carry alongside them.
The moments when “I’m fine” becomes easier than admitting, “I’m struggling.”
That is at the heart of Hatteras House.

This story is deeply personal to me because after more than 20 years in the first responder world, I’ve seen how much these men and women carry—and how much their families carry with them.

I wanted to create a story where someone could turn the page and think:
“I get it.”
Or maybe even:
“I feel seen.”

Because sometimes, what we need most isn’t another reminder to be strong.
Sometimes, we need a place where we can finally be honest about what hurts.

That is what Hatteras House is meant to be—a story about resilience, faith, family, love, and what happens when we stop pretending we’re okay.

If you’ve ever been the strong one for everyone else, I hope this story reminds you that you don’t have to carry everything alone. 🤍

If this speaks to a part of your story—or someone you love—I’d love for you to share this with them. Sometimes knowing “someone gets it” is the reminder we need most. 🫂
