Conflict is a part of relationships and life in community. Jesus’ words in Sunday’s (Sept.6) gospel are often used in situations having to do with church discipline. The prophet Ezekiel tells of warning the wicked to turn from their ways, and Paul reminds us that love is the fulfilling of the law. We gather in the name of Christ, assured that he is present among us with gifts of peace and reconciliation.

This Sunday, August 30, the prophet Jeremiah speaks of the incurable wound of his suffering yet finds in God’s words the delight of his heart. When Peter doesn’t grasp Jesus’ words about suffering, Jesus tells the disciples they will find their lives in losing them. Such sacrificial love is described by Paul when he urges us to associate with the lowly and not repay evil with evil. In worship we gather as a community that we might offer ourselves for the sake of our suffering world. In this Sunday’s (August 23) text from Paul’s letter to the Romans, Paul urges us to not be conformed to this world but to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, using our individual gifts to build up the body of Christ. Let us use our time, talents, treasure, and all that we have and are – to strengthen Christ’s body so we might boldly witness to the world that God so dearly loves. See you in church.

WORSHIP THIS WEEK
This Sunday, August 16, a Canaanite woman comes to Jesus with a mother’s ache and a simple prayer: “Lord, help me.” She does not have all the right words. She simply trusts that the mercy of Jesus is enough—even a crumb from His table.

There are days when our prayers are just as simple. We bring Jesus our worries, our loved ones, our weariness, and our need. And He receives us with compassion. In Christ, God’s mercy is never scarce. There is forgiveness, healing, and hope for all who cry, “Lord, help me.”

This Sunday, August 2, Jesus sees a hungry crowd and has compassion. The disciples see only five loaves, two fish, and thousands of people. But Jesus takes what seems far too small, blesses it, and provides more than enough. This week, bring your small gifts and daily needs to the Lord. Around the table, in the car, before bedtime, or during a busy morning, remember: in the hands of Jesus, little becomes enough, and His grace is always more than enough.
