In today’s gospel, Jesus reminds us that the greatest commandments are to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. These two commandments are inseparable, for our love of God should be reflected in the way we treat others with kindness, compassion, and generosity.

This week, look for an opportunity to put your love for God into action through service to others.

Get to know more about Serena, our FOCUS team director! She comes from Ohio and is in her second year with us here at EIU, but third year as a missionary!

Favorite Newman event/memory? My favorite event was the mission trip to Christ in the City Philadelphia I went on with Newman over spring break last year. I love extended quality time with people!

Describe your job in 3 words? Humbling, fulfilling, transformative.

What would you be the “patron saint” of? I'd be the patron saint of washing dishes! There's something so therapeutic and prayerful about it!

Favorite feast day in the liturgical year? St. Therese of Lisieux Feast Day!

Go-to dinner spot in Charleston? Mi Casa Tu Casa - the food is great and I love the atmosphere :)

What is your ideal day off? Go to Mass, color and read at Casey Coffee Co, pray at a church out of town, call or hangout with a friend!

Favorite Bible verse? Recently John 10:10 has been a favorite verse of mine: "the thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, I have come that you might have life and have it abundantly." It's a great reminder that through Jesus, we can have an abundant life even on this side of Heaven!

We HAD to share more of these AMAZING photos from Newman Night!

These photos were captured by one of our very own students, Laney Wright from Mattoon. She also recorded and edited the video which was presented that evening. If you haven't seen it yet, go take a look!

In today’s gospel, Jesus instructs us to “repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” We have responsibilities as citizens of this world, but our ultimate loyalty belongs to God. As the coin bears Caesar's image, we are created in the image of God and called to reflect His love in everything we do.

How are you bearing the image of Christ in the world?

In today’s gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a wedding feast where God generously invites everyone to share in His joy and love. God continually invites us to draw closer to Him. He pursues us, even when we are tempted to ignore or refuse His grace.

Today, reflect on one way that God is inviting you to draw closer to Him. Respond with a willing heart and consciously say “yes” to His invitation.
