This Sunday's sermon was directed specifically to our confirmands, but we all probably need to be reminded that Jesus shows us that true discipleship means treating people with dignity, forgiving others, and using our power to protect rather than dominate. Discipleship is about being conformed to his image, one choice at a time.

Jesus didn't give us power to dominate, he gave us power to be witnesses. The ascended Christ can't be contained by any nation or empire. His throne is marked by sacrificial love, not coercion.

Faith isn't about believing the right ideas, it's about participating in the life of God! In our culture obsessed with self-sufficiency, we often forget that the Christian life can't be sustained by willpower alone. When grief, illness, or burnout hit, our systems reveal their limits. That's why prayer, worship, and Sabbath aren't escapes from the world - they reconnect us to our source of life: the Holy Spirit.
