Blessed Church New Year! On September 1st the Church begins a new year, and the Gospel gives us the mission of Christ:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor… to proclaim release to the captives… to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4 & Isaiah 61)

Christ came into the world to heal, liberate, restore, and proclaim the Kingdom of God. And as His Body in the World, His Church, we are called to participate in this same work. A new year is not simply an opportunity to make new plans for ourselves; it is an opportunity to ask, “How can I participate in the work of Christ this year?” Who around me is poor and needs good news? Who is captive to sin, loneliness, addiction, fear, or despair? Who is wounded and needs healing? Who needs to be forgiven, encouraged, visited, or welcomed?

The acceptable year of the Lord becomes meaningful when we allow Christ to work through us. Let this new Church year be a year in which we do not merely receive the blessings of Christ, but become instruments through which His blessings reach others.

Much love in Christ,

Fr Thomas Manuel

☦️ A Blessed and Joyful Week at Holy Apostles! ☦️

What a beautiful and blessed week we had together as a parish family! ❤️🙏

📅 Thursday, August 27 – YAL Meeting
Our YAL had a wonderful gathering filled with fellowship, great food, and a meaningful discussion. Our brother Will shared a thoughtful presentation on “Orthodoxy and Nature”, giving us an opportunity to reflect on our Orthodox faith and our responsibility toward God’s creation. 🌿☦️

We are especially blessed to have our parish priest, Fr. Thomas, with us as we continue growing together in faith and fellowship. 🙏❤️

🍷 Saturday, August 29 – Legal Professionals Social
Our parish community also gathered at Stone Tower Winery for a wonderful Legal Professionals Social. It was a great evening of fellowship, conversation, and building connections within our community. 🤝

⛪ Sunday – Divine Liturgy & A Day of Celebration
On Sunday, we gathered for Orthros and Divine Liturgy, served by Fr. Thomas and Fr. Patrick.

The day was made especially meaningful as we celebrated three beautiful occasions:

✨ Welcoming 4 New Catechumens
Fr. Thomas blessed four new catechumens as they begin their journey toward Holy Orthodoxy. We rejoice with them and pray that God will guide and strengthen them throughout this blessed journey. ☦️🙏

🎂 Celebrating Fr. Patrick’s 70th Birthday
We also joyfully celebrated Fr. Patrick’s 70th birthday with our parish family! May God grant him many blessed years, good health, strength, and continued service to His Holy Church. 🎉🎂☦️

👦👧 GOYA & Sunday School Begin!
After Liturgy, our GOYA held their first meeting of the new year, and our Sunday School also got underway. It was wonderful to see our children and youth back together, growing in faith, learning, and fellowship. ❤️☦️

We thank God for all these blessings and for the wonderful people who make our parish family so special.

Glory to God for all things! ☦️❤️
May He continue to bless Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church and guide our parish family throughout the year.

☦️ The Beheading of the Holy and Glorious Prophet, Forerunner & Baptist John
📅 August 29

🕊️ Today, we commemorate the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, the Forerunner of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Saint John was the voice crying in the wilderness, the last and greatest of the Prophets, the bridge between the Old and New Covenants, and the one who prepared the way for Christ. Filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother’s womb, he fearlessly proclaimed repentance and called all people to live according to God’s commandments.

🙏 Saint John boldly confronted Herod Antipas for his unlawful marriage to Herodias, declaring:

“It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.”
— Mark 6:18

Because of his faithfulness to God’s Law, Saint John was imprisoned and ultimately beheaded at the request of Herodias and her daughter, Salome.

🩸 Saint John sealed his preaching with his own blood, becoming a martyr and a witness to the truth. Though his earthly life ended through violence, his courage, purity, and faith continue to shine throughout the Church.

☦️ Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John, pray to God for us!

🙏 May we learn from Saint John to speak the truth with courage, to repent sincerely, and to remain faithful to Christ—even when doing so comes at a cost.

🕯️ May his holy memory be eternal!

☦️🕯️ SAINT MOSES THE BLACK OF SCETE 🕯️☦️
📅 August 28

🙏✨ Today, August 28, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Moses the Black of Scete — a powerful example of repentance, humility, prayer, and the transforming grace of God. ☦️❤️‍🔥

⛓️ Saint Moses once lived a life of great sin and violence. He was a slave who was eventually cast out by his master and became a ruthless thief. 💔

But everything changed when he repented and turned his heart toward Christ. ✝️🙏

🏜️ He entered the monastic life under Saint Isidore of Scete, giving himself completely to:
🙏 Prayer
🧎‍♂️ Repentance
🥖 Fasting
🕯️ Spiritual struggle
❤️ Humility

Through God’s grace, the man who had once lived in darkness became a priest of exemplary virtue and great humility. ✨☦️

🧺 The Basket of Sand

One day, the Fathers of Scete asked Saint Moses to come and judge the fault of another brother.

He refused at first, but when they insisted, he took a basket 🧺, filled it with sand, and carried it on his shoulders.

The sand was pouring out behind him. 🏜️

When the Fathers asked him what the basket meant, he said:

🕊️ “My sins run out behind me, and I do not see them, and I am come this day to judge failings which are not mine.”

💭☦️ What a profound lesson for us!

Before we look at the faults of others 👀, we must first look at our own hearts ❤️ and remember our constant need for God’s mercy and forgiveness. 🙏

🛡️ Later, when a barbarian tribe came to Scete, Saint Moses willingly remained behind, knowing the violence of his former life, and was martyred alongside six other monks. 🕯️☦️

His life teaches us that no past is too dark for God’s mercy. 🌅❤️‍🔥

Where there is true repentance, there can be transformation. 🙏
Where there is humility, there can be healing. ❤️
Where there is Christ, there is hope. ✝️🕊️

☦️🕯️ Saint Moses the Black, pray to God for us! 🙏❤️

🕊️ Ἅγιε Μωϋσῆ, πρέσβευε ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν! ☦️🙏

☦️🕯️ Feast of Saint Phanourios 🕯️☦️

Today, August 27, we joyfully celebrate the feast of Saint Phanourios the Great Martyr and Newly Revealed of Rhodes 🇬🇷☦️

✨ Very little is known about his earthly life, but his holy icon was miraculously discovered around the year 1500 among the ruins of an ancient church on the island of Rhodes. Through this discovery, the faithful came to know and venerate this great martyr, who had remained hidden for centuries. 🕯️🙏

🔎 Saint Phanourios is especially loved as a helper of those who have lost something—whether it is something material, or even hope, peace, strength, and direction. 🙏❤️

🍰 In thanksgiving for his intercessions, the faithful traditionally prepare Phaneropita (Φανουρόπιτα), offering it as a blessing and remembrance of the Saint.

☦️ Saint Phanourios, Great Martyr and Newly Revealed, pray to God for us! 🙏🕯️

🌿 May Saint Phanourios intercede for all who call upon him in faith, helping us find what is lost and, above all, leading us closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. ✝️❤️

🎉 Χρόνια πολλά to everyone 🥳☦️

☦️🙏 A Beautiful Day of Faith, Fellowship & Unity! ❤️

What a blessed and joyful day at our parish! We were grateful to have so many parishioners and faithful join us for prayer, fellowship, and a wonderful time together. Our services were led by Fr. Thomas, with the assistance of Fr. Patrick. ⛪️☦️

At the end of the service, we had the blessing of the leadership of our Young Adult League (YAL) and their patron saint, St. Nektarios. 🙏☦️ May St. Nektarios guide and strengthen our young adults as they continue to grow in faith, fellowship, service, and love for Christ and His Church. ❤️

🏐🍕 At 5:00 PM, we continued the celebration with a wonderful YAL gathering featuring pizza, volleyball, fellowship, and lots of smiles! We were especially blessed to welcome young adults from several Orthodox parishes who joined us for this special evening. 🤝☦️

It was truly a beautiful gathering that reminded us of the importance of growing together in faith, building friendships, strengthening our relationships, and living in unity as one Orthodox family. ❤️☦️

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped make today so special!

🙏☦️ May God bless our young adults, our parish, and all of our Orthodox brothers and sisters!

☦️🙏✨ TODAY, AUGUST 20 — HOLY PROPHET SAMUEL ✨🙏☦️

🕊️📖 Today we honor and celebrate the memory of the Holy Prophet Samuel, a great Prophet of God, judge of Israel, intercessor, and faithful servant of the Lord. 🙏👑

🌿 Samuel was a child of prayer. His mother, Hannah, prayed with many tears for a child, and God heard her prayers. She dedicated Samuel to the Lord, and from his earliest years he served faithfully in the Tabernacle. 🕯️🙏

👂✨ While still a child, Samuel heard the voice of God calling him:

📖 “Samuel! Samuel!”

And Samuel answered with humility and obedience. 🙏❤️

⚖️🕊️ Samuel became a righteous judge and compassionate shepherd of God’s people. He faithfully guided Israel, prayed continually for them, and taught them the good and righteous way. 🙏🇮🇱

👑 Samuel was also chosen by God to anoint the first two kings of Israel — Saul and David. Yet even when Saul turned away from God, Samuel continued to mourn and pray for him. 😢🙏❤️

🌟 His life teaches us:
🙏 Pray without ceasing
❤️ Serve God with humility
🕊️ Remain faithful and obedient
🤲 Intercede for others
📖 Always seek the good and righteous way

📖 “Far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.” — 1 Samuel 12:23 ☦️

🙏🕯️ Holy Prophet Samuel, intercede before the Lord for us, our families, our parish, and for all the faithful!

☦️✨ Holy Prophet Samuel, pray to God for us! 🙏🕊️❤️
