You might be getting salvation backwards.

We usually tell the story like this:

“I heard the gospel.”
“I believed.”
“Then God made me new.”

But John frames it quite differently. He says:

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God.” (1 John 5:1)

Not “will be born.”
*Has been* born.

In other words, faith doesn’t make you spiritually alive.
Faith is the evidence that God already has.

God is the first mover in salvation.

He gives new birth.
New birth produces faith.
Faith produces love for God.
Love for God produces love for His people.
And that faith overcomes the world.

So real change doesn’t start with willpower.

It starts with God's power. He's the one who opens blind eyes, gives life to dead hearts, and makes Jesus look more satisfying than the world.

That should change how we worship, pray, and do ministry.

Because God isn’t waiting for people who can overcome the world.

He’s making them.

When God told Jeremiah to speak, he told him not to hold back a word.

So Jeremiah obeyed.

He said the hard thing.
He gave the warning.
He spoke what God commanded.
.. And the people wanted him dead.

But Jeremiah’s boldest witness may not have been the message alone.

It may have been what happened after the message cost him.

What does the world see when Christians obey God and don’t run from the cost?

Ever wanted Jesus without the people part?

John says that’s not a real option.

“If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar…” (1 John 4:20)
In other words, claiming love for God while turning away from God’s people is incompatible.

And “hate” in the Bible isn’t only rage that wishes harm.
Often it’s quieter... and closer to home:

Turning away.
Avoiding.
Withdrawing.
Choosing comfort over the family God has given you.

John’s logic is simple and sobering:

If you won’t love the brother you can see,
how can you claim to love the God you can’t see? (4:20)

Then he makes it plain:
This isn’t a suggestion. It’s a command.

“Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (4:21)
You can’t claim the Father and reject His children.

Who are you turning away from that God is calling you to turn toward?

Can the way you live hinder the way you pray?

That’s a sobering question.

Most of us know what it feels like when prayer seems blocked; like we’re saying the words, but something isn’t getting through.

But 1 Peter gives us a possibility we may not consider enough:

Our prayers can be hindered.

And not because God is unaware.
Or because He misses certain prayers.
Or because He is distant.

But because our fellowship with Him is affected by how we live.

What if a stronger prayer life starts with paying attention to more than your prayer life?
