Psalm 119:22
"Remove from me reproach and contempt; I have kept thy testimonies."
"Reproach" means "disgrace."
"Contempt" means "disrespect."
We must lean on the word in the face of prejudice.
No one can disrespect you or disgrace you if you don’t let them.
God will take care of the internal turmoil.
A Christian that stays bitter is announcing to the world that they haven’t kept the testimonies of God.
When we are leaning on the word, we are able to let those internal struggles go. They belong to God.

Psalm 119:21-24
Getting the Most out of Life
The third principle we need to understand
Lean on the Word
If we learn the word, we will long for the word. If we do those, we will lean on the word.
We have to lean on the word when we come face to face with pride.
Proverbs 6:16
Pride is something we can see in others, but we don’t see it in ourselves.
Job 41:34
We live in the world of the last word. Let me explain this. We hear it all the time where people like to argue and are not satisfied unless they get the last word in. Sometimes the last word has to come behind the back of the other. But do you really know what the last word is? It’s Pride!
Romans 12:19
If we are truly leaning and longing then we really won’t care what others will say. “Great peace have they that love thy law and nothing shall offend them.”

Psalm 119:20
The second thing is an Attitude that affects the actions.
“My heart breaks at all times.”
Psalm 107:8
The problem has been that we are filling our soul with good enough instead of goodness.
It is like substituting because we are out of something. Mayonnaise instead of Miracle Whip. Creamy peanut butter instead of crunchy. Great Value ranch dressing instead of Hidden Valley. Those are just good enough, but they are not goodness.
I read books about the Bible. I listen to Christian podcasts. I read, I listen. All these things are not bad; they are just substitutes. If you have to do without one of them. Don’t do without the bible.

Psalm 119:20
Longing for the Word
When considering a longing for the Word. We need to have:
An Attitude that Affects the Soul
The soul is the mind, will, and emotion. Man has a body, soul, and spirit. We are talking about the soul.
If you don’t have a hunger for the Word, you can ask God for it. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally.”
Psalm 42:1-2 Do we have the courage to ask God for a hunger for the Word.
We have talked about learning the word, but the problem may be that we just don’t have a hunger or longing for the word.

Psalm 119:20
Getting the Most out of Life
The second principle we need to understand, in order to get the most out of life, is the following:
Long for the Word
He has a longing for the word. A hunger for the word.
The word "breaketh" that is used here is the only time in the Old Testament that it is used. It is a desire for the Word of God so much that the heart breaks.

Psalm 119:19
To learn the word you must be a stranger.
This world is not my home; I’m just passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue….
If we are strangers in this land, we need guidance from the one who put us here. God!
1 Peter 2:11-12: “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
“What we get out of life is in direct proportion to our love for God and His Word.” Paul Tautges
