At the beginning of a new year, many United Methodists renew their covenant with God with a Covenant Service and a recitation of the Wesley Covenant Prayer--a prayer which John Wesley adapted from the Puritan tradition.

The prayer invites us to rededicate our lives to serving as Jesus' representatives in the world. It invites us into participating in self-emptying love.

May the words inspire you and your spiritual journey in the new year. Blessings and Happy New Year.

"The Spirit continues to draw the church back to the core of the Gospel: love that both liberates and reconciles," writes Rev. Dr. Tércio Bretanha Junker in an editorial shared with United Methodist News .

Dr. Junker invites United Methodists to look for and root out the ways that fear is masked as faith. "Jesus never established a movement based on fear; he built a community of faith where love is stronger than death and hope exceeds despair."
