Arrows Must Be: shaped, formed; guided with skill, strength; given care; aimed, given direction; an extension of warrior’s strength; potential for good or evil.

Ps.127:5 A full quiver. City gates—location for conducting business. Strength in numbers

Summary: all we enjoy are gifts from God. Depend on God (Zech.4:6), not ourselves. We can all value children (VBS). Lk.9:46-48; Deut.6:6-7; Eph.6:4; Prov.22:6

Ps.128 Another Psalm of Ascents. Focus on parents, family. Fear of the Lord.

Ps.128:1 Fear of the Lord—reverential fear. Ps.111:10; Job 28:28; Prov.1:7, 9:10. Micah 6:8

Ps.128:2 Gen.3:18; Ps.1:3

Ps.128:4 Reverential fear of the Lord. Eph.1:3; Lk.1:50; Prov.14:26, 22:4
Ps.128:5-6 These words were meant to speak, pray, sing a blessing.

Our blessings in Jesus from Zion: Jesus taught & ministered in Zion; Jesus died as a sacrifice for our sins in Jerusalem (Golgotha, just outside the city walls); Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to heaven from Jerusalem. The Gospel was first preached out of Jerusalem; The church was birthed in Jerusalem.

Peace be upon Israel! How we should continue to pray.

Why we should live this way (all of us). God gives us our security; Neh.8:10 our strength; we are obediently following His plans & purposes; we will leave a legacy; we will live and flourish, not just exist.

God is our good, good Father. Philippians:
A Study in the Joy of Christ
In Living, Serving, Knowing and in Resting Him

Hey! It’s gonna be all right, God got this! Anchored in Confidence

Confident:
peíthō the root of 4102 /pístis, "faith"– to persuade; (passive) be persuaded of what is trustworthy, to conciliate, to assure, interestingly, equivalent to tranquilize, as a sense of rest as we trust, yield, follow, and obey Christ.

Philippians 1:12–14
God‘s plans cannot be hindered
Paul’s imprisonment didn’t stop it

Bad motives, in spite of good content

Philippians 1:15-18
Preaching: Motives and Content

Philippians 1:18
What then?

"So wat den? No mattah! Dass da main ting, eryting dey talk bout Christ, no mattah if dey doing it wit good kine heart o fake kine heart. Dass why my heart plenny glad, an I goin keep on being glad!"

Paul was not particularly concerned about motives, but he was always concerned about content/doctrine.
See Galatians 1:6–9.

Christ is preached; and in this, I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
Boldly saying yes, and boldly determining he will rejoice.

AW Tozer wrote this:

Philippians 1:19-20
“As always, so now also Christ…”
Paul trusted in God’s ways with each new circumstance

Just because God did it one way one time does not mean we hold Him hostage to that.

Not being delivered from the problem, but through the problem is yet another way God works.

In Paul’s writings, he was making it clear that Christ would be magnified, as Paul said, in my body, whether by life or by death.

Determining in our hearts, the Lord’s will, will directly affect our outlook in and on ministry.

Also: Paul believed in the power of prayer!

Philippians 1: 21–26
For to me, to live his Christ, and to die is gain.
Death is not defeat.

It is a promotion: the Christian’s net gain
It is a graduation to glory

It is a two time gain!
It would glorify Jesus
And he would be in the presence of Jesus.

How to live in this life for Christ is instructed
As well as the extreme desire to depart.

Paul’s expectancy and anticipation are to be with Chris

1 Peter 3
“Leaving us an Example”
Living as examples of Christ & Through the Cross

Sevenfold Example of Christ:
Leaving us an Example: 1Pet 2:21

Sufferings 1Pet. 2:21
Sinlessness 1Pet. 2:22
Guilelessness 1Pet. 2:22
Love when being mocked 1Pet. 2:23
Patience in threatenings 1Pet. 2:23
Resignation to God 1Pet. 2:23
Righteousness 1Pet. 2:24

THEREFORE: The Example in us: what it looks like:
For the Lord’s Sake
1 Pet. 2:13-17

Submit yourself to every ordinance of men for the Lord's sake
Do good
Honor all people
Love the brotherhood
Fear God
Honored the king

Therefore & For the Lord’s sake: implied
Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear
1Pet. 2:18-20
The Lord’s Example to which we are called
1Pet. 2:21-25

Therefore & For the Lord’s sake: implied
Wives: Likewise: key point: of the heart: onward.
1Pet 3:1-6

Therefore & For the Lord’s sake: implied
Husbands: Likewise: key point: heirs together of the Grace of life.
1Pet 3:7

Therefore & For the Lord’s sake: implied
Finally, all of you:
1Pet. 3:8-9

Be of one mind
Having compassion for one another
Love as brothers
Be tenderhearted
Be courteous
Not returning evil for evil
Not returning reviling for reviling

On the contrary:
An example of the Cross
Blessings!!!!
Knowing that you were called to this
That you may inherit a blessing

He who would love life, and see good days:
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness??
1Pet. 3:19-
Let him refrain his tongue from evil
Refrain his lips from speaking deceit
Let him turn away from evil, Let him do good
Let him seek peace and pursue it

Twelve Commands for Christians

Be one of mind (1Pet. 3:8; Eph. 4:1-3).

Have compassion on one another (1Pet. 3:8).

Love as brethren (1Pet. 3:8; 1Cor. 13).

Be pitful (tenderhearted, 1Pet. 3:8).

Be courteous (friendly, 1Pet. 3:8).

Not rendering evil for evil (1Pet. 3:9).

Not railing for railing (1Pet. 3:9).

Be a blessing to others (1Pet. 3:9).

Control the tongue (1Pet. 3:10; Jas. 3).

Do not be deceptive (1Pet. 3:10).

Shun evil and do good (1Pet. 3:11).

Seek peace and pursue it (1Pet. 3:11).

1 Peter 3
The Behavior of Wives and Husbands

1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel-- 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror. 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Suffer for Righteousness' Sake

8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Calvary Chapel Carson City
Sunday Morning
May 31, 2026

8th Sunday since Easter
Week 1 of the Empowered Church

1 Peter 2
Living as examples of Christ
From ‘the we were’ to ‘But you/we are' “In His Steps”

But you are:
1 Peter 2:9-10
ARE: fixed, established, granted, given,

Chosen generation
A Royal Priesthood
Holy Nation
His own special

But you are:
1 Peter 2:11-12
Beloved, Sojourners, Pilgrims

But you are now: Purposed: Bondservants:
Therefore:
1 Peter 2:13-17

But you are now:
Called Examples of Christ
1 Peter 2:18-25
i.e.: Vs. 21
“That you should follow His Steps”

His Steps: He:
Committed no sin
Nor was deceit found in mouth
Reviled
Did not reveille in return
Suffered
Yet He did not threaten
But! Committed himself to Him who judges righteously
Himself for our sin
In His body
On the tree

Our Response to such a great gift:

That we having: We
Died to sins
Might live for righteousness
(By whom stripes you were healed)

We were:
Like sheep going astray
But now!
But have now returned

When something is found in returned, it is often rewarded.
We were lost, He found us, He returned, rescued, ransom, redeemed us, a reward was given…
Think about it.
He found, He gave, He gave the rewarded to us.
That could be called children of God

Behold, See what [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so, we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him. Amplified Bible.

Returned to:
THE Shepherd and Overseer of our souls.

Psalm 8
God's Glory and Man's Honor

1 O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! 2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength Because of Your adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; 4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? 5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! 6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands ; You have put all things under his feet , 7 All sheep and oxen , And also the beasts of the field , 8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea , Whatever passes through the paths of the seas . 9 O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Genesis 1 The Creation: the Trinity

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth . 2 The earth was [1] formless and void , and darkness was over the [2]surface of the deep , and the Spirit of God was [3]moving over the [2]surface of the waters .

John 1 The Word Made Flesh: the Trinity

1 In the beginning was the Word , and the Word was with God , and the Word was God . 2 [1]He was in the beginning with God . 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing e came into being that has come into being . 4 In Him was life , and the life was the Light of men.

The Baptism of Jesus:!Matthew chapter 3: the Trinity

16 After being baptized , Jesus came up immediately from the water ; and behold , the heavens were opened , and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, 17 and behold , a voice out of the heavens said , " This is My beloved Son , in whom I am well-pleased ."

The Great Commission: Matthew 28: the Trinity

18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying , " All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth . 19 " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit ,20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo , I am with you always e , even to the end of the age ."
