2 Corinthians 12:14 (NKJV)
14 Now for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be burdensome to you; for I do not seek yours, but you. For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
Some of you may have noticed that the devotional has missed a few days in the past weeks. I have had a very interesting time fighting with the computer and the internet and that has caused some of the devotionals to be delayed. Those who know my abundant skills with electronics are amazed that I get any of these things out. The other reason is something Michelle and I are trying to do, visit with our children and grandchildren which has us traveling a bit. One family in Augusta, Georgia, one family in Carrollton, Georgia, one in Urbana, Illinois, and one in Derwood, Maryland. We have decided to visit all these locations.
Allow me a moment to reflect on this subject. As people get older, there is less desire to travel and some will argue that the expense can be too great. I say that it is worth a little inconvenience and cost to have time with those we love. Yes, I want the children to come visit us but I feel it is only fair to go to them as well.
Why do I mention this here? I want the adults who read this to think about opportunities to spend time with your kids. I want the kids to look for opportunities to spend with their parents. If we are going to see a change in society, it will occur when families come together. They do not have to agree on everything or like everything but they do have to love one another and tell each other that they are loved.

Psalm 96:11-13 (NKJV)

11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.
Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice
13 before the LORD.
For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
He shall judge the world with righteousness,
And the peoples with His truth.

This may seem like a repeat but verse 13 is different and is an extension of the reasons for praising the Lord and a great reason for telling others about His greatness and His salvation.
All of our praise should be directed to the Lord God who is the Creator of all there is. He has also paid the price for our sin and opened the truth of salvation to all who believe and receive Him.
Allow me to share the next reason for praise. He is coming back. The Lord has promised to return but it will be different this time. He came before in humility and as the suffering servant. He came to offer hope and promise to all who would believe. He came to be the Lamb who would pay the price for all our sin. When He returns, it will be as the judge of the earth and of all those who are upon the earth.
God is not going to be like earthly judges. Those judges can change their minds. They can be persuaded by emotions. They might even accept bribes. Our God is going to judge everyone in righteousness. There is not going to be any denial of sin or of His authority because everyone will know that He is God.
He is coming. He is coming soon. Are you ready?

Psalm 96:11-13 (NKJV)

11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.
Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice
13 before the LORD.
For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
He shall judge the world with righteousness,
And the peoples with His truth.

We have been looking at praise of the Lord. In these verses we see it is not only the people of the earth that will praise but also all nature will respond to the Lord in praise.
All heaven and earth will honor the Lord. The heavens with rejoicing will reveal His majesty and the earth will show respect with gladness. When we think of all the struggles of earth with the weather, earthquakes, drought, and all manner of other natural disaster it is wonderful to see the beauty of creation and how all life and nature point to the glory of God.
Not only the heavens and earth but the sea and all that is contained in it will be announcing the greatness of God. I have stood on the beach and seen the crashing waves and the animals in the water and flying in the skies and I have though about how great our God truly is.
As I drive along the roadways and see the fields and woodlands and I know that all this wonderful greenery and fruitful plantings are the work of the Lord. The more we see of these, the more we know that God is still in charge and His plan is perfect and will always honor Him.
All creation gives glory to the Creator.

Psalm 96:10 (NKJV)

10 Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns;
The world also is firmly established,
It shall not be moved;
He shall judge the peoples righteously.”

When I study Psalm 96, I see two characteristics that remind me of the importance of the Psalm.
First, it is a call to praise of the Lord God with all our being. We serve a wonderful Creator. The second part is the fact that the psalm is a call to witness to the world about the greatness of our God.
What do the people, both those who are near to us and those at the ends of the earth, need to know if they are going to worship the Lord? There are four things that are clearly established in verse 10.
The Lord reigns. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and the absolute ruler of all that is. The seen and the unseen answer to His will.
He has established the world with certain laws and principles. Those laws are answerable to Him. One of the laws He established is the wages of sin is death. Because of sin death entered the world and He has provided the only means to overcome that law.
All that He has created is under the power and purpose of the Almighty and it will stand until He makes the changes He desires. That leads into the final point here. Because of the nature of creation and all the creatures therein, there will be a judgment of the peoples and how we have related to Him and His world. He is going to judge in righteousness and not by comparing my work to your work. We will be judged in our relation to Christ.

Psalm 96:7-9 (NKJV)

7 Give to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
Give to the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give to the LORD the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come into His courts.
9 Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!
Tremble before Him, all the earth.

The call of Psalm 96 is to praise the Lord God. These verses are praise to the Lord’s glory. The psalmists calls for all the families of all the peoples to give glory. Every tribe, family, and individual have reasons to give glory to God as an act of praise. We have life and a beautiful world that the Lord has provided and that should be reason enough to praise Him.
Let me ask a question. How do people who have never heard the message of God know how and why to praise Him? Those people who have never heard need to hear the Gospel and respond to His love and salvation. They can recognize the beauty of creation but they need to be told exactly who this God is and what He has done.
The name of God is worthy of praise. He is due all the glory that we can achieve or even imagine. We should praise Him with all our hearts, minds, and strength. We should bring an offering into His courts. That may be a material offering but I believe it is also offering of our being to God. (Romans 12:1-2)
Yes, we should worship Him and we should reverence Him, which can be expressed in the trembling for the great and glorious Creator of all that is. We should not act out of fear or dread. We should respond to His beauty, His glory, and His grace.

Psalm 96:4-6 (NKJV)

4 For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

I have shared the idea of difference between praise and thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is giving God the glory for what He has done and praise is giving glory for Who He is. These verses of the psalm are definite praise.
How great is our God? Think about the size of the universe. If we could travel at the speed of light, it would take 1.25 seconds to get to the moon, 8 minutes and 20 seconds to get to the Sun, over 4 years to the nearest star, 100,000 years across the Milky Way, 2.5 million years to the nearest galaxy, and over 50 Billion years to the edge of the known Universe.
Isaiah 40:12
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance?

God has measured it all in the palm of His hand! Where all the other gods are mere idols, our God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. He is the one who is worthy of all honor and majesty. He is so great that we can always depend upon His power but even more we can depend on His love, His mercy, and His grace.
He is worthy of all our praise.

Psalm 96:1-3 (NKJV)

Oh, sing to the LORD a new song!
Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing to the LORD, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.

I have been thinking about the need to share the message of Christ to all peoples. I have been reading the Psalms and came to one of my favorites.
We are to be witnesses but some ask the question as to how we are to witness. First, we are to praise the Lord with our voices and we are to call on others to join in the song. Do you have a song in your heart? Do you tell of the changes that have occurred in your life as God has worked in and through you? It does not say the song has to be beautiful nor do we have to show exceptional talent in singing. What we have to do is express to God the love we have for Him and the gratitude we have because of all He has done. Remember, the song you have for the Lord is beautiful to Him because you give it in love.
We are to sing in a way that blesses Him and proclaims His salvation every day. There is wonderful joy we know because He has saved us. We should sing and shout the glory to all around us.
There is also the need to tell others. About half the population of this planet have never had an opportunity to know the Lord and to rejoice in His salvation. We need to make sure our song carries to those around us and to the ends of the earth.
