First Christian Church Disciples of Christ

10/12/2026

The prayers of all in Carlsbad's First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are with Pope Leo XIV as he faces lung surgury this week in Rome and we stand in solidarity with all our Roman Catholic Brothers and Sisters during this time.

Amen!

Today, the National Council of Churches joins Christians worldwide in celebrating Jesus's entry into Jerusalem, greeted with hope, humility, and a longing for God’s reign of peace. Crowds waved palm branches, proclaiming praise, not fully knowing this joyful procession would lead to the cross.

Palm Sunday invites us to hold together celebration and sacrifice, triumphant hope and costly love. It reminds us that Christ comes in mercy, not force, calling us to follow with Him with faithful hearts.

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!” — Luke 19:38 (NRSVue)

📢 Community Invitation: No Kings Demonstration – Carlsbad, NM

First Christian Church invites our community to gather this Saturday for a peaceful, non-partisan demonstration as part of the broader No Kings movement—a nationwide call to uphold democratic values, civic responsibility, and the shared principle that no one is above the law.

🗓 Saturday
⏰ 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
📍 Courthouse Lawn (Canal & Mermod), Carlsbad

Across the country, communities are coming together under the “No Kings” message—affirming that democracy depends on the voices, participation, and integrity of everyday people. This local gathering is one expression of that shared commitment.

This will be a peaceful, lawful, and respectful event. We gather not in anger, but in conviction—modeling what responsible civic engagement looks like at its best.

✔️ Respectful, non-inflammatory messaging
✔️ Non-partisan participation
✔️ Commitment to peace, safety, and lawful conduct

We encourage participants to:
• Dress for cool weather (layers recommended)
• Bring water and stay hydrated
• Stand together in unity, respect, and purpose

This is about showing up—with integrity, with dignity, and with a shared belief in the responsibilities we carry as citizens.

All are welcome.
