Dear friends,

I'd like to invite you to join me on a Faith in Us National Clergy Call next week. Despite its name, lay leaders are also welcome. Links to register are included at the end of this post.

As Bishop Bill Tesch of the NW Minnesota Synod writes, "As Lutheran Christians. we engage civic life as part of our baptismal vocation to follow Jesus Christ in our daily lives. Our participation in initiatives such as Faith in Us is informed by the scripturally grounded moral discernment reflected in the ELCA social statement, Faith and Civic Life: Seeking the Well-being of All. Supporting free, fair, and trusted elections is not partisan alignment or an endorsement of political parties or candidates. It is one expression of our calling to follow Jesus by seeking truth, loving our neighbors, practicing responsible citizenship, and working for the common good.

At these calls next week, organizational leaders at the center of democracy protection work nationwide will give you a clear-eyed political analysis of what we need to do to defend our elections. The architects of Minnesota’s Faith Leader Resistance to Operation Metro Surge will also invite you into a shared path of clergy action based on what worked in Minnesota and what can work across the country to protect our elections and our election results.

In case you missed it, we've posted a recording of the recent Church Property Resource Hub town hall!

Imran Siddiqui, vice president of the ELCA; Jennifer Hockenberry, interim executive director of Women of the ELCA; and Lucille "CeCee" Mills, secretary of the ELCA, introduced the new initiative, which is designed to support ELCA congregations as they steward their physical spaces and make mission-focused decisions about property use.

The CPRH leadership team — the Rev. Sarah Jones, Deacon Sarah Kretschmann and the Rev. Tim Brown — shared resources currently available, previewed the online support forum available to congregations, highlighted stories of innovation in using church space, answered questions related to church property and invited congregations to upcoming webinars.

Almighty and eternal God, the strength of those who believe and the hope of those who doubt, may we, who have not seen, have faith in you and receive the fullness of Christ’s blessing, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

"Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility — a time dedicated to celebrating the lives, gifts and contributions of transgender people, while also recognizing their ongoing struggle for safety, dignity and justice.

In the ELCA social statement Faith, Sexism and Justice: A Call to Action, we affirm our belief that “God’s intention revealed through the Scriptures is that all people have life abundantly and flourish” (page 2). Today reminds us of our call to love, affirm and support one another — not just today, but every day as an expression of our faith."
