Psalm 141 teaches us to welcome loving correction. 1 Corinthians 13 reminds us that love “bears all things” and “hopes all things.” We stop loving well when we expect people to become our ideal instead of receiving them as fellow sinners being transformed by God’s grace. Love doesn’t demand perfection—it patiently points one another to Christ.

Don’t make people your ideal. Make Christ your standard, and love others with the grace you’ve received.

Love doesn’t become defensive when it’s corrected. According to 1 Corinthians 13, love is not proud or self-seeking. When we immediately justify ourselves instead of listening, pride speaks louder than love. The gospel frees us to receive loving correction because our identity is in Christ, not in always being right. Let correction shape you, not harden you.

A faithful friend doesn’t flatter—they lovingly correct. “Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness” (Psalm 141:5). Love, according to 1 Corinthians 13, doesn’t rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Biblical love is willing to speak hard truths with humility because it desires repentance, growth, and God’s glory. Don’t reject loving correction—receive it as God’s kindness and extend it with Christlike love.
